NorthStar Moving partners with E-Cycle Environmental—making moving more green

NorthStar Moving Corporation has unveiled a new green partnership with E-Cycle Environmental, providing a bright green solution for households on the move. Computers, televisions, batteries, and a plethora of other electronic and large bulky items are often discarded during the moving process. E-Cycle Environmental ensures that these items are recycled domestically, under strict environmental laws, rather than being shipped off to unregulated third world countries to be processed by highly toxic and polluting techniques. “Most people during the course of their move throw out more stuff than at any other time of the year,” said Laura McHolm, co-founder of NorthStar Moving. “The garage, closets, home office, and guest rooms all finally really get cleaned out, and unwanted items, including hazardous materials to the environment like old computers are discarded. We know our clients don’t just want to throw things in the garbage to end up in a landfill. They are not interested in faux-green; they want a truly green solution. With E-Cycle Environmental we found a recycling partner that cares about the environment as much as NorthStar Moving and our clients care.” most importantly, guarantee no export of the items to third world countries.” In addition to recycling domestically, NorthStar Moving runs its entire fleet of moving trucks on biodiesel and uses battery-powered lift gates on all trucks, alleviating any need to leave vehicles idling. The company’s moving boxes, corporate business cards, and stationery are made of 100% recycled materials and they re-use boxes. The company has also incorporated green features into its facilities, such as skylights and extra windows in all its warehouses and offices to provide natural light sources and eliminate unnecessary electrical use. Even the warehouse has been well insulated to reduce the need for air conditioning and heating. Storage is done in reusable stackable wooden vaults eliminating the mass land waste caused by endless rows of attached storage units that have, unfortunately, become the mainstay in the self-storage world. NorthStar Moving employees also embrace the green movement recycling bottles, cans, and other materials in the office.
