Now that\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0got our green cleaning supplies all ready, we can get started with a brand new aspect of spring cleaning! (If you haven\u2019t read last week\u2019s tip on creating your own green spring cleaning supplies, you can catch up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarmoving.com\/blog\/2013\/diy-spring-cleaning-make-your-own-cleaning-supplies\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.) Well, what is the next step in spring cleaning? My next tip is clearing out your clutter and getting organized! \u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Before you can even get spring cleaning and bringing in that spring sunshine, it&#8217;s important to go through your belongings and de-clutter. (Photo by: UnnarYamir)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Spring Cleaning: De-clutter Tips!<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Empty out your belongings on the floor, and sort this pile into four categories: \u201cKeep,\u201d \u201cGive Away,\u201d \u201cTrash\/Recycle,\u201d and \u201cStore.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>For the belongings you cannot let go, upcycle them into something else. \u00a0Rip up old towels and t-shirts to use as cleaning rags.<\/li>\n<li>Stay efficient when it comes to cleaning machines.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Does your dishwasher leak? Does your washing machine use lots of water to wash just one towel? Make sure that appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers are energy- and water-efficient.<\/li>\n<li>Remember to go\u00a0through\u00a0your junk drawers, to check expiration dates in your medicine cabinet, and to clear out any storage space like attics, basements, or garages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the belongings you&#8217;ve decided are impossible to part with, invest in some storage and an organization system. One idea is to reuse wooden wine boxes or wooden crates if you have them lying around. They are easily\u00a0stack-able\u00a0in your closet, and a great green option for storage.<\/li>\n<li>Create a space for everything in your &#8220;Keep&#8221; pile, and get in the habit of keeping it in its proper place.\u00a0(Spring cleaning means warmer weather, so it&#8217;s the perfect opportunity to clean and store your winter clothing!)<\/li>\n<li>If there is no room for storage in your home, consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northstarmoving.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">a storage company<\/a>.\u00a0Choose a storage company that uses green warehouse style facilities\u00a0that store items in reusable wooden vaults rather than vaults that have constant lights and air conditioning to maintain them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14168\" style=\"width: 238px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tusnelda\/7121794841\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14168     \" title=\"spring cleaning in the sun\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northstarmoving.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/7121794841_2c92b5b5a4_c.jpg\" alt=\"spring cleaning in the sun\" width=\"238\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Relax in the sun after spring cleaning.
