Quintero)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This eco-friendly activity helps to navigate around the social stigma of \u201ctouching trash.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0It also shines a light on two major global concerns:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">1) The environmental consequences of plastic waste, a focus of Earth Day 2018 festivities.\u00a0The concern is not just for the effects on land terrain and wildlife, but also on the oceans and marine creatures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">2) Rising obesity statistics.\u00a0It is possible to burn about 50 more calories in 30 minutes of plogging (288 calories) as opposed to just regular jogging (235 calories).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Proper disposal and recycling methods are important too; plogging is supported by Keep America Beautiful. The nonprofit organization (that has campaigned for litter prevention for more than 60 years) recommends ploggers visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kab.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KAB.org<\/a> for more about community improvement programs as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/iwanttoberecycled.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IWantToBeRecycled.org<\/a> where a search by ZIP code will reveal recycling center locations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here are additional tips for making the most out of your plog:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Burn even more calories by adding in some extra squats and arm reaches as you pick up litter.<\/li>\n<li>Sign up for the health app <a href=\"https:\/\/lifesum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lifesum<\/a> where you can track your plogging hours.<\/li>\n<li>Attach a bag to a fanny pack (or two bags to keep trash separate from recyclables).<\/li>\n<li>Take a pair of gloves (plastic, rubber or even garden) with you for those messy garbage grabs.<\/li>\n<li>Try organizing a \u201cgroup plog\u201d \u2013 ask your friends to join you on your eco-friendly endeavor.<\/li>\n<li>Pocket some extra money by visiting a local recycling center that offers cash in exchange for your recyclable bottles and cans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26489\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26489\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26489\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northstarmoving.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/20180422_plogpic5a-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Burn more calories \u2013 get some &quot;lifts&quot; with those bags!
