NorthStar Moving and Storage Company has joined a coalition of over 190 businesses that have taken a pledge to not discriminate against or deny goods or services to any person (including client\/customer, employee, visitor, and vendor) regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion or disability.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Open to All Pledge?<\/h2>\n

This pledge is part of<\/span> Open to All<\/span><\/a>, a nationwide campaign developed to engage the American public by the promotion of awareness and understanding regarding the importance of nondiscrimination laws. It also advocates for the \u201cbedrock principle that when businesses open their doors to the public, they should be open to all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Open to All campaign was created by the<\/span> Movement Advancement Project<\/span><\/a> (MAP), an independent think tank founded in 2006. Its mission is to \u201cprovide rigorous research, insight and analysis to help speed equality for LGBT people.\u201d MAP believes this can be accomplished by educating and influencing agents of change, such as policymakers, allied organizations and funders, the media and the American public. Simultaneously, MAP endeavors to strengthen the LGBT movement (including LGBT organizations, advocates, and funders).<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally, Open to All was launched to highlight attention on the U.S. Supreme Court case,<\/span> Masterpiece Cakeshop vs. Colorado Civil Rights Commission<\/span><\/a>. The case involved a business which refused service to customers in violation of state nondiscrimination laws. While the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in that case confirmed the importance of nondiscrimination laws, it was not explicit in protecting certain minority groups from being discriminated. \u00a0As Open To All states on its website, \u201cCases like Masterpiece\u2026could still dramatically alter the landscape of nondiscrimination laws in the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

No person should have to worry about being turned away from a business (or worse, be faced with hostility\/ harassment) simply because of who they are.<\/span><\/p>\n

This feature is displayed in the “More business info” section, where consumers\u00a0<\/span>check to see what types of payment are accepted, if appointments are needed, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have pledged to reject discrimination, promote acceptance, and interact respectfully with all people, on equal terms.
