We are now the largest independent moving company in California.\u00a0 We make 8,000 to 10,000 moves per year \u2013 over 132,000 moves since 1994. NorthStar Moving has redefined the moving industry by providing award-winning local, long distance and international moving services, along with full service storage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When Ram Katalan and Laura McHolm co-founded NorthStar Moving Company back in 1994, they knew that the moving industry had a horrible reputation for customer care. They also knew moving was a dreaded experience for most people. They set out to prove \u201cmoving day\u201d did not have to mean chaos and dealing with an unreliable moving company.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ram and Laura still believe in delivering excellent service and still love turning their clients into raving fans. With a desire to make moving as stress-free as possible, they continue to make it their top priority to provide special customized client care.\u00a0 They give their clients the red carpet treatment and were the first in the industry to offer <\/span>eco-luxury moving packages<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In August 2019, we received the <\/span>Hunger Fighting Hero<\/b><\/a> award. In May 2019, the<\/span> Certificate of Achievement<\/b><\/a> in extraordinary efforts to fight hunger.\u00a0 And in April 2019,<\/span> the <\/span>Mover Of The Month<\/b><\/a> award.\u00a0 All were presented by the nonprofit <\/span>Move For Hunger<\/span><\/a> in recognition of our work to make sure everyone in Los Angeles County has enough to eat.\u00a0 We hold an annual Let\u2019s Send Hunger Packing food drive. Over the past seven years, the food and monetary donations equals over 134,120 meals. We also help with leftover food pick-ups. We make sure the leftovers are donated, not discarded, from events like the <\/span>Los Angeles Marathon<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll San Francisco Half Marathon<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In July 2019, we ranked #69 on the <\/span>Top Woman-Owned Business List<\/b><\/a> by the Los Angeles Business Journal.\u00a0 To be considered for this list, businesses must have at least 50% female ownership and are placed on the list based on 2018 revenue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In June 2019, co-founder Laura McHolm was named <\/span>Entrepreneur of the Year<\/b><\/a> by the Los Angeles Business Journal at the Women\u2019s Council & Awards. <\/span>Laura was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year for changing the dim views consumers once held of the moving industry, while contributing time, services and financial support to charitable and social conscious organizations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In June 2019, we were presented with the <\/span>World Refugees Day Award<\/b><\/a> by <\/span>Miry\u2019s List<\/span><\/a>, a nonprofit serving over 300 families who have recently resettled in America as refugees from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. Miry\u2019s List honored<\/span> Laura McHolm for NorthStar Moving\u2019s integral role in settling refugee families into their new homes in this country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In June 2019, the<\/span>\u00a0Community Leader Award<\/b><\/a> was presented to Laura McHolm by the National Association of Women Business Owners in Los Angeles (NAWBO-LA). Holding a special place in our hearts is <\/span>Claire\u2019s Place Foundation<\/span><\/a>. Our co-founder Laura was on the founding board and now serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.\u00a0 Claire\u2019s Place was founded by a 13 year old, Claire Wineland, who <\/span>lived with cystic fibrosis her entire life.\u00a0 The foundation is <\/span>a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In September 2018, Claire passed away at the age of 21. <\/span>Laura met Claire in 2011, when she answered Claire\u2019s heartfelt wish to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater LA for a newly designed, mermaid-themed bedroom. Laura was instantly wowed and impacted by young Claire\u2019s incredible wisdom and inspirational outlook on life. They didn\u2019t want their relationship to end there. Claire and Laura quickly became family. Over the past decade, Laura and her marketing and public relations team have worked closely with Claire\u2019s Place Foundation to create campaigns and fundraisers to support families of children living with cystic fibrosis. Claire and the foundation catapulted into the national spotlight through press, TV interviews and films. Top media features include: <\/span>Glamour <\/span><\/i>magazine, <\/span>The Dr. Oz Show<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Seventeen <\/span><\/i>magazine, <\/span>CNN<\/span><\/i> and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

On September 2, 2019, the documentary \u201c<\/span>Claire<\/span><\/i>\u201d was released exclusively on YouTube. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Nick Reed and Ryan Azevedo and produced by Paul Foley, the film <\/span>tells Claire\u2019s story through interviews and footage, exploring her fight with cystic fibrosis and how she inspires millions to find purpose and to live proudly. We are honored to work with the nonprofit organization <\/span>Miry\u2019s List<\/span><\/a>. Founded by Miry Whitehill, Miry\u2019s List crowdsources supply requests for vetted refugee families. The supplies help them to rebuild their lives as they settle in the United States. And, the amazing Miry List\u2019s community gives them a new sense of belonging and family.\u00a0 NorthStar Moving provides free services to store these essential household items and delivers them to the new homes of the resettling families. We are honored to help these refugee families (or, as Miry prefers to call them, \u201cnew arrivals\u201d) feel welcomed; safe; and to know they have now arrived home and they belong here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the last seven years, NorthStar Moving has held our \u201c<\/span>Let\u2019s Send Hunger Packing<\/span><\/a>\u201d food drives.
