It’s almost Passover! You know what that means? Time for lots of\u00a0 family, yummy food, telling stories, asking questions…yep, it’s Passover Seder time! How do you celebrate Passover? Whatever you do, make sure it’s eco-friendly! Here are some tips and tricks for making your matzo time more green:<\/p>\n

Passover Food and Cooking<\/h3>\n

As always, the best way to go green is to buy Passover food that gets the eco-friendly seal of approval. Make sure your kosher wine<\/a>, matzo ball soup, potatoes, and other Passover ingredients are from local sources, are organic, and\/or come from fair trade vendors. You can probably find all these Passover ingredients at your local farmers’ market<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also, since Passover means no bread, don’t just throw out all the old bread you’re using. Make breadcrumbs and freeze them for after the holidays, or use your old bread to make bird food for your outdoor friends! Waste not, want not!<\/p>\n

Passover Dinner and Decor<\/h3>\n

When getting ready to entertain in your home for Passover, keep a few things in mind. Opt for beeswax or soy candles<\/a> that create much less soot and are more sustainable than paraffin candles. Avoid using any disposable dinnerware or silverware and give your guests fabric napkins instead of paper ones.\u00a0 For Passover decor, avoid using cut flowers and opt for more sustainable potted plants that will last longer and can be planted later.<\/p>\n

If you’re going to be visiting family or friends for Passover, make sure to travel green by carpooling and avoiding peak traffic hours so as not to waste gas.<\/p>\n

Passover Seder Plate<\/h3>\n

One last sustainable (and adorable!) idea for celebrating Passover is to knit your Seder Plate instead of buying new elements every year! This knitting pattern from Etsy<\/a> will keep your Seder Plate fresh and healthy for the environment. The bitter herbs look delicious and so fuzzy.<\/p>\n
