How the USA Today Selection Process Works
USA Today’s America’s Best-In-State Moving Companies 2026 list is based on a comprehensive, multi-layer evaluation designed to reflect real customer experience and verified operational excellence.
The process included:
- Nationwide customer survey:
More than 17,000 consumers rated moving companies based on key satisfaction drivers, including care of belongings, punctuality, and overall experience. - Review-based sentiment analysis:
Researchers analyzed over 2 million online customer reviews from the past five years. - DOT & FMCSA verification:
Federal records were reviewed to confirm each company’s physical address and interstate operating authority. - Media and public records screening:
Companies were screened for adverse media coverage, legal issues, or safety concerns. Those with major findings were excluded. - Final scoring:
A proprietary scoring model combined survey results, sentiment analysis, and verification data. Each state required a minimum of 30 evaluated companies, and each mover needed at least 100 reviews to qualify. Only the highest-scoring companies earned placement on the 2026 list.
