The Los Angeles Business Journal published their annual list of the Influential Family-Owned Businesses. NorthStar Moving is honored to have been included and profiled in this list as a Notable Family-Owned Business.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Code of Business Practices represents standards for business accreditation by BBB in the United States and Canada. We are proud to be continuously accredited. This is our BBB accreditation certificate for August 2019 through July 2020.
The Best Places to Work survey and awards program was created by the Los Angeles Business Journal and Best Companies Group in 2006. It was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Los Angeles, benefiting the county’s economy, workforce and businesses. The chosen list is made up of 100 companies. NorthStar Moving ranked an impressive #33 in the best medium sized company category.
The Hunger Fighting Hero is awarded by Move for Hunger to organizations that host a successful event to fight hunger in their area. NorthStar Moving’s seventh annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” summer food drive raised food and monetary donations to provide 33,924 meals to feed hungry children in Los Angeles County. Over seven years, the drive has raised a total of approximately 134,124 meals.
The Los Angeles Business Journal publishes an annual Women in Business list. A women owned business is defined as a business with at least 50% women ownership. NorthStar Moving, Co-Founded by Laura McHolm and Ram Katalan, was ranked #69 in 2019.
Laura McHolm, NorthStar Moving’s Co-Founder and Director of Marketing received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Women’s Council & Awards on June 20, 2019 in Los Angeles. It was a half day event full of inspiration and education. Business women in Los Angeles shared their wisdom through a series of dynamic panels followed by a luncheon awards program honoring outstanding achievements by the top business women who make a difference throughout Los Angeles.
The Entrepreneur of the Year award is given to women who started or operate a business of their own while simultaneously impacting their community for the better. Laura McHolm was chosen as an honoree for changing the dim views consumers once held of the moving industry, while contributing time, services and financial support to charitable and social conscious organizations.
Miry’s List, a nonprofit organization serving over 300 families who have recently resettled in America as refugees from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq, honored NorthStar Moving Co-Founder Laura McHolm with their Ana Huna “Least We Can Do” Award during their 2019 World Refugees Day Awards. Miry’s List Founder & Executive Director Miry Whitehill said that “We are awarding Ms. McHolm and her entire team at NorthStar Moving as they have been an integral part in settling these families into their new homes in this country. NorthStar Moving stores donated essential household items for us and then delivers them to the apartments of the resettling families. Our new arrival refugee families feel welcome, safe and a sense of belonging. Ms. McHolm and NorthStar Moving are demonstrating to the entire country how private companies can make a tangible impact on families resettling here. It’s inspiring and deserves to be celebrated.”
The National Association of Women Business Owners in Los Angeles (NAWBO-LA) honored NorthStar Moving’s co-founder Laura McHolm with their Community Leader Award at the NAWBO 33rd Annual Leadership and Legacy Awards Luncheon & Conference on June 14th at the JW Marriott in Downtown Los Angeles.
The NAWBO-LA Community Leader Award recognizes someone who has achieved success in her career, business or personal life and have made tremendous impacts on those around her through her perseverance and dogged determination to create lasting change and influence her community through her service, dedication to her work, and passion for excellence. This honoree serves her community without reservation.
During the 2019 California Moving and Storage Association Convention (CMSA) that was held in San Diego, NorthStar Moving was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by Move for Hunger. They wrote to us: “”Every year at state and national moving industry conferences we give out awards to those who go above and beyond with their dedication to the cause. We chose Northstar Moving not only because of the amount of food collected, but also for the willingness to help with larger pick-ups like the LA Marathon and Rock n Roll San Francisco Half Marathon. The Hunger Fighting Hero is awarded to organizations that host a successful event to fight hunger in their area. NorthStar Moving’s second annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive in partnership with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage raised 8,109 pounds of food to feed hungry children in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The overwhelming volume of food collected and the awareness the company raised for hunger earned NorthStar Moving the award.
The 25th annual Women’s Summit & Awards event, celebrating great women leaders in the local business community was held by the Los Angeles Business Journal on June 23rd at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles.
