Summer is here! You know what that means, it’s time for summer travel! It’s time to go on vacation. Whether it’s  relaxing the days away on a foreign beach or sightseeing with the family,  summer travel means packing up and hitting the road. Summer travel is the best parts about summer vacation for families everywhere, but the packing leading up to the big trip can be a challenge.  Airline restrictions on baggage don’t make it any easier. Most airlines allow two free carry-ons, one big and one small. Checked in baggage is dependent on airline polices, but plan on paying if you have more than one bag to check in. To avoid airline baggage fee, it’s best to pack light and carry on your bags. But how will everything  you need fit? What should you bring or leave? There are so many questions that it can make your head spin, but no worries, I’ve got some great organized packing tips to make you summer travel ready!

First, decide just what you’re going to need on your summer travel

  1. Find out what amenities are going to be available at your hotel. This way you can eliminate the things you won’t need. Does the hotel have dry cleaning or laundry facilities? Hairdryer?
  2. Find out what you’ll do on your trip and what the weather will be like. Summer travel could mean rainy season in another country.
  3. Lay out your clothes before hand, and bring only the clothes you’ll need for the summer travel activities. Do not bring extra clothes “just in case.”

Once you’re figured out what you’re going to pack, it’s time to organize and pack your clothes.

  1. Choose a color palette, and stick to it! Pick 2-3 colors and stick with them. This way you don’t have to bring more than one purse or multiple pairs of shoes which tends to take up the most space.
  2. Keep your clothes neat and wrinkle-free. Pack the suitcase or summer travel bag with heavy items on the bottom and lay your clothes on top, with as little folding as possible. Do not roll or fold up the arms of a shirt, but rather fold arms in and fold in half where the natural waistline falls on the clothing.
  3. Adding accessories can change your look without taking up too much space.
  4. If you’re going to a chillier place where you’ll need boots or a heavy coat, wear your bulkier items on the plane to save space.
  5. Plan what you’re going to wear on the plane and remember to factor this outfit into your mix and match.
  6. Don’t forget to pack for possible gifts and things to be brought back from your summer travel. Pack a collapsible suitcase at the bottom of your bigger suitcase that you can fill with gifts on your return trip.
