20 years ago, in a tiny one-room office in Chatsworth, California, with few trucks and a skeleton crew office staff, something special grew from little more than an ideal. Ram Katalan, Co-Founder and President, and Laura McHolm, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, began NorthStar Moving in much the way every great enterprise begins: with the dream of doing things a little different, a little better, perhaps. Ram and Laura understood that in order to move someone’s belongings, you couldn’t just focus on transporting goods from one place to another; you had to focus on happiness.
That happiness starts with our team. A happy team leads to happy clients. As word spread and our clientele increased, happy clients led to a happy community as we started being able to give back some of what we have been blessed with. In essence, NorthStar Moving was founded on the dream of moving happiness home, one day at a time.
Today, that dream is a reality and the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Over the past 20 years NorthStar Moving has received 46 awards and 15 recognitions for our moving services. Our commitment to improving the environment has resulted in numerous recognitions, including being awarded the CAA-LA Signature Award for Best Green Practices in 2010.
Being green is close to our heart, but even closer is the well-being of our team. NorthStar Moving has been awarded one of the best places to work by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal and the Los Angeles Business Journal a combined total of 8 times! The people who work at NorthStar Moving truly are family, making the Best Places to Work achievement one of our greatest honors.
At the end of the day, we are a company that believes in giving back. To the environment. To our work-family. And to the community. We’re proud to say that over the years we’ve worked with 21 different organizations dedicated to bettering the community and the world. We hope this number continues to grow alongside our company.
We went from operating out of a tiny office in Chatsworth to providing a nationwide service. We’ve continued to be featured on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing businesses in America. As our company expanded, our trucks multiplied and eventually grew into an extensive Biodiesel fleet.
An active social media presence isn’t just us tooting our own horn – we don’t have to, after all, because our thousands of happy, satisfied clients get the job done for us. Our web presence has increased tenfold due to the numerous recommendations and testimonials that our clients shared. Across all platforms we’ve received more positive reviews than any other moving company in history!
20 years in business is a milestone, no doubt. We’re honored to be moving into our third decade and proud that we’ve spent the last 20 years moving happiness home and providing great service to our clients and our community.
