This is my 3rd move in 2 1/2 years and I have used North Star each time.  I have never been disappointed, they have been super punctual, my crew of 3 worked their butts off, finished a little early and a little under the written estimate (always good).  My previous move (2nd move) was to put all my belongings into storage and I asked them to pack for me too.  First time I had ever done that, always thought it would be too expensive and I would save money.  What was I thinking – I will never pack again.  I saved money AND time by having North Star do all the work and provide the supplies.  It actually cost less than what I had spent on boxes, packing tape and material.  They literally packed everything all in one day and then picked up everything the next day and put it into my storage.  Great Job!  So this last move (3rd move), was a bit more complex, since I was not going to take everything out of storage, but needed to move what I was not taking into a smaller storage, then stop at my sister’s where I had been living for year and pick up, boxes, plants and a refrigerator and then take it all to my new apartment.  Again these guys were professional, fast and always respectful.  

The first moves that North Star did for me, not a single thing was broken or damaged.  This time there were a few items broken and a couple nicks – things happen, but the cool part is that they were the ones to bring it to my attention and suggest that I call Customer Service the next day to see if they would give me a discount.  It is important to know that if you don’t buy additional insurance (through a separate agent), then you get only a very basic coverage by a mover (this is pretty standard in the industry) of .39 cents per pound.  I knew this upfront and have not purchased additional coverage, so needless to say I would only be entitled to a nominal fee for my damages.  But the customer services department offered me a $50 credit/refund check for my damage, without having to go through a long claim process (which was more than I would have been able to get with the nominal insurance coverage).  It certainly didn’t cover my damages, but I took that risk by choosing not to buy additional coverage, so no complaints here.

Hey, but wait, it gets better.  I moved in the beginning of Sept. and today (mid-Oct.),  I get a call from Ron (he is my estimator – I say mine, because he coordinated and estimated all 3 of my moves – I have his name and number programed into my phone), he was calling just to follow-up on how the move went for me.  I told him that I was happy, that the guys worked hard and then I mentioned that there had been some damage this time, but that Customer Service had been kind enough to give me a credit of $50 and that I appreciated it.  He asked what had been damaged and how much I thought that I had cost. Then he said that he would talk with customer services and see if he could get me an additional $50.  Well, Alma (customer service) called me within an hour and asked me to verify my address so she could send me a check for $100.  This kind of customer service just does not exist any more, but it is alive and well at North Star. I recommend them to everyone and will continue to use them in the future (I still have stuff in storage – so ya’ know it is just a matter of time – lol).

Trust North Star with your move. They are fast, careful, affordable, and amazing!

Used Northstar for the second time, and they were fantastic!  So so stressful to move a five person family, and they just swooped in and took care of business!  The price was competitive and completely fair.  Highly recommend!

I used them only for unloading a penske truck upon arriving at my new home.

They were wonderful. I showed up an hour or so late, thank you LA traffic, and they were so cool about it and I was not charged extra. They were careful with our things and very friendly. After all the moving horror stories I’ve read I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so painless.

Also, when you call for info the customer service people are super helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

These guys were great. Very professional, hard workers. Tried there best to please me any way they could. I would use them again. Only minor oops but with my super heavy furniture it’s to be expected. The foreman was awesome!!!!!!

My roommate and I used NorthStar on the recommendation of a work colleague, and it turned out great.  First the Yelp coupon is a great value.  I received a prompt call from the company when I submitted an inquiry in the website, and they were very accommodating as I had to move my destination several times (we were both moving into storage units) and responses to emails were very prompt.  All fees were explained up front (California has some weird requirements regarding hourly labor and driving, but everything was on the up and up).

The three movers arrived promptly at the very beginning of the time window they gave me, wrapped the important furniture very well and followed all instructions.  The truck was very well packed and everything seemed secure and did not move around at all.

After moving into the storage units, a few items wouldn’t fit and they even wrapped these for me after the fact so I could ship them elsewhere.

Only minor complaint was that I had to supervise the actual packing of the storage unit, as it was a very tight fit and they didn’t use a lot of common sense when putting things into the unit so we had to take things out and retry a few times before it all fit.  

Overall a great experience, would highly recommend Northstar to anyone looking for a very professional and competent moving company who wants to avoid the general sketchy feel that I think the moving industry has!

Two years after our move from SF to LA, we have returned to SF!  Unfortunately, we could not use NorthStar for the move back (my husband’s company paid for the move so we were stuck with their choice of movers).  I say unfortunately because our experience moving with NorthStar was superior to our current experience.  

Due to issues with our current move, I’ve had to contact NorthStar on multiple occasions for information and records from our last move.  Despite not having our current business, Ram, Daisy, and the whole team at NorthStar have been nothing but helpful, courteous, and professional!

aces. they did a great job from start to finish on my local move in Pasadena. what moving company ever receives a 5 star rating? i enjoyed working with them. punctual. a good bit of hustle. and no damages to any of my things. i heard that they train their workers properly and it shows. recommended. this is a real company who wants to earn your business. thanks guys!

This was my first time using NorthStar, and they were amazing from my very first contact with them over the phone through to the end of the move.  Their customer service and follow-up is excellent, the pre-move estimator was fabulous and accurate, and the movers were timely, professional, and efficient. Overall, a wonderful experience.

I’ve moved a few times but this was the first time I used NorthStar.  They are as good as it gets!  Although their hourly rate is a little more expensive, they use 3 movers instead of 2 which makes it go faster.  So you pay more per hour, but likely for fewer hours than a 2 person team would charge.  Also there is/was a coupon through Yelp that can make it a little cheaper.

They were efficient and courteous and helped make my latest move a breeze.  I would definitely use them again!

The move went very well and totally stress free, thanks to the professionalism of the movers and their sense of keeping the customer happy. Right from arrival, packing, moving and unloading.Despite an hourly rate, I was surprised to see they were very fast. They took care of some packing as well and were fast too.

An example of their excellent customer service: I was not ready at the time they arrived and asked for a little more time, though not obliged to do so, they went out of their way and agreed to come back a little later, that was a big help! Beatrice, the coordinator was great as well. The hourly rate is not rock bottom, but if you factor in the fact that you will have a stress free move in a honest amount of time (other providers with lower rates may stretch out the hours), you will come out ahead, plus the Angie’s list coupon is really useful. I used Northstar for a move two years ago, had a terrific experience and decided to use them again. They did not disappoint and were excellent the second time around.  There was a lot of communication throughout my move process to make sure everything went smoothly.  The three movers were extremely professional, helpful and patient.  My furniture and valuables were moved in with no breakage and no hassle.

My roommate and I used NorthStar to move back in April, they were the best moving company I have ever dealt with.  Customer service on the phone was stellar, the moving crew was on time (didn’t think that was possible), they brought wardrobe boxes and were so quick!  They moved us from our old 2 bedroom apartment into two separate places down the street from each other. The whole move was quick, and the three guys that moved us were really nice, professional, and were careful when they moved our artwork and other “breakable” pieces.  Literally all of my friends use NorthStar, you cannot go wrong.

These guys were awesome. They completed moving our apartment to our new house, from the westside to the west valley in 2.5 hours. Seriously. I will caveat that everything was boxed, we moved most of the boxes ourselves and they had mostly just the furniture to move. But still, it was a 2 bedroom apartment. The three guys worked very quickly. Didn’t damage anything, didn’t try to sneak in extra charges. Good, honest movers. We had purchased a deal on Yelp that helped with the cost but they were reasonably priced anyway. Definitely recommend.

I had used Northstar for a move years ago and forgot how great they were!  I was able to move mid-week so I got a discount, plus the $50 Yelp deal, so it was a bargain for the excellent service I received.  There was a TON of communication before the move, confirming that I understood every charge and double confirming arrival times.  They got there exactly on time and had me moved in less time than expected.  The three movers were extremely helpful, understanding, patient, and professional.  My furniture and valuables were moved in with no breakage and no hassle.  I would recommend them highly!
