Hired NorthStar for an in-town 2br move where I had already packed everything up. They were accommodating, hard-working, and on-time. Money well spent.
I have moved many times and this was by far my best experience with a moving company.  My move required a local and national quote.  When I called to request a quote the young woman with whom I spoke took basic information, but immediately said it would be best to have someone come to my home to review what I had to ship to ensure accurate pricing.  I called with just a week to schedule everything.  

Alan Nudel came to my house two days later and we went through the place together with him asking detailed questions about what was being shipped and reminding me of a number of details (like the garage) that I’d forgotten.  He gave me a quote that seemed a bit higher than others I’d gotten on the phone, but I felt much more comfortable since he had actually seen everything and gave me a “not to exceed” price with the caveat that the actual price might be lower.  The same day he emailed me two quotes — one for the local and teh other for the national move and we scheduled a pick up time.  He also assured me that he would send a great moving crew.

Three days before the move I received a call from the local Northstar office confirming the date and time of the pick up.  Later that day, I received a second call from Northstar’s affiliate on the East coast confirming the date and pick up time for that portion of the move.  

On moving day, both crews showed up well within the time window and called me in advance to let me know they were en route. Alan also called to make sure that the crews had contacted me and were on their way.   In fact, both crews of three men  arrived at my door within five minutes of each other.  My house is not large.  I had visions of the local stuff being shipped across country and the cross country stuff staying local, but the two crews were outstanding in their work and coordination.  Omar, the lead, and Mario, and Lawrence who took care of the cross-country move were quick and efficient and made sure to review each item before they started packing and then to provide me with a checklist after they’d completed the packing.  Every item was thoroughly wrapped and I am confident that everything will arrive in one piece.

The second crew with John as lead and David and Hector helping did a superb job.  I was stunned by how well they packed each item, yet they stayed below the estimate of packing materials costs provided to me by Alan.  I did not watch them load the truck, but they must have been incredibly well-organized because the unloading at the other end was amazingly fast and efficient.  This was no easy feat, because I was moving all of my things into another home of equivalent size that was already furnished.  The unpacking required that they constantly ask me where to put things and even as they moved quickly they also made sure that things were not simply dumped in an available space so they could move through the work. Everything was placed where I asked and on a couple of occasions relocated when I got confused about space.  Despite all of the time and care that they took with the move, they still came in well below the not-to-exceed cost of the move, which was a tremendous surprise and relief.

I realized after they’d left that I had forgotten to retrieve two packing blankets that I owned and needed for storage.  I called the office and within an hour a different crew came by and handed me two packing blankets.  In the evening Alan Nudel called to confirm that all had gone as planned.

In short, Northstar was OUTSTANDING.  Everyone with whom I came in contact was courteous and professional, the prices were fair, and they all seemed to take pride in their work.  I absolutely recommend them.  Be sure to ask for Alan Nudel and if you can get either crew with whom I worked, you’ll be in great shape.
Moving is among the most nerve wrecking things for most people and my nerves were definitely frazzled during my recent move from Los Angeles to Ann Arbor.  After contacting over 20 companies, I went with NorthStar with a bit of hesitation because despite their excellent rating, most of the reviews were for local moves.  Luckily for me, I could not have asked for a better experience.  Every contact I had with someone at NorthStar was excellent.  Be it Ron who did the estimate, or customer service via phone, or the guys who picked up my stuff and the ones who delivered my stuff, the communication and service were thorough, quick, and professional.  I honestly cannot think of anything they could have done better.  Oh, and their rate is very competitive too.
i called NorthStar on short notice (3 days)  to help move my stuff from my apartment in Tarzana to a house in Simi. The three guys who showed up knew what they were doing and got everything packed up and moved over to Simi in just a few hours. Very easy to deal with, organized and professional.

We moved from Los Angeles to the Bay Area. The quote given by all other movers was around $1700 – $2000. Guess how much it cost me when I considered using North Star Movers instead? $825 !! yep, less than half of what at least 4 other movers quoted!

These guys are very friendly, awesome group of young and energetic men, all wearing same dress and very professional. This is the 6th time I moved in the US, and the North Star movers are by far, I really mean, by far the best! 5 stars without a doubt!!!

Very professional in every respect. Making a reservation was simple. Movers called to say they were available early if we were ready, and they were flexible with starting early but not immediately. The move was seemless and quick. We couldn’t believe we’d done it all ourselves previously.
NorthStar did a fantastic job on our cross-country move, which involved moving all our worldly possessions from Santa Monica to Austin.  Every single person I interacted with at the company was friendly, polite, and helpful.  Our moving logistics were handled by Ron, who was good-humored, accommodating, and always very quick to respond my questions via e-mail.  He came over to take a look at the items we were moving, and was very clear about how to prepare for the move as well as what limitations they had (no liquids that were unsealed/open, like my multi-gallon containers of soy sauce).

On moving day, a team of four movers showed up on time and completed the job in about 6.5 hours. They were quick, efficient, courteous, and hard-working.  Just as importantly, they were very careful about protecting our stuff, ensuring that each and every item was adequately protected.   We especially appreciated the care given to our 3D printer.

The move itself was pretty organized.  We had something like 111 boxes/items, and they kept everything numbered and notated so that when those 111 boxes showed up at my new house in Austin four days later, I knew where each of them went.

We truly appreciated the hard work of everyone at Northstar who was involved in our big move, and would recommend them without hesitation.
Northstar is a FANTASTIC moving company. My sister and bro-in-law recommended them after they moved their 5 bedroom house across the country. I also did a cross country move and Northstar did an AMAZING job. They charged me 25% less than the national movers quoted me. The guys in LA were great – they were courteous and packed my things with care. The company communicated with me the entire journey across country and they delivered my things within the agreed upon window. The guys in Florida were also great. Moved me from the 6th floor of a condo high-rise to the 4th floor of a walkup + tiny elevator building. They brought 4 guys to pack & move – all were friendly and very professional when it came to the packing & moving. They packed & itemized immaculately, and everything arrived safely to its new home. Overall it took about 8 hours for a 2bd/2ba + time in transit. For the peace of mind, the price was well worth it! Would highly recommend them!
I used NorthStar to move from Los Angeles to Houston in May, and they were wonderful. Their estimate was very close to the actual price. They moved everything from my apartment and my storage unit into the the moving truck within a few hours; these guys work fast, but they were very careful. It took about 2 weeks for my belongings to be delivered, but absolutely nothing was missing or broken…and I had tons of breakables in the boxes. They were on time, very professional, and very friendly. I trust this company and would definitely use them again.

Crew arrived at 1045am yesterday which was delightfully ahead of the 12-6pm block previously quoted. Yesterday could have been a disaster with Carmageddon and the LA Triathlon,  but Mike and his crew had me loaded up in 45min and unloaded at my new home in 15min. These guys are the best!
nothing short of 5 stars for these guys. From the day Ilan came over to give me a quote to the day the move took place it was all painless, stressless, and just overall great. I was quoted a not to exceed price which was great (so i knew i was protected in case of things running late), the movers came in and immediately got to work and had me in our new apt set up and ready to go all within 4 hours. These guys are great at what they do, they are highly professional, and courteous.
We used North Star to move a 2-bedroom from Playa del Rey to Torrance and were incredibly pleased.  Not a single thing was scratched or broken. They took their time wrapping everything and handling everything with such care. All three of the guys they sent were very professional and friendly and helpful. We spent a little over $800 for the entire move including double drive time (which is standard with moving companies). That included a $50 off yelp deal.  We would definitely recommend them and use them again in the future. Moving can be stressful but they did a great job of minimizing that stress and getting everything where it needed to go.
These guys were our heroes!!!! We had a three man team move from Glendale to an apt in West Hollywood and they were absolutely amazing. They were kind and helpful. They went above and beyond to help these first time movers and we couldn’t have been happier. They not only moved our stuff in but assembled some of our furniture!!! We were skeptical about paying for movers but it was 100% worth the money and more. We will never use another company other than NorthStar!
Whew! Moving sucks, we all know that, but NorthStar makes a stressful and hard job seem easy! Our four man team of Jose, Yoboni, Frank and Will were amazing, they were really friendly, fast, effiecient and made us feel confident that our stuff would get moved with no damage. I was impressed more and more as the day progressed and these guys kept working at a fast, efficient pace, one would be wrapping, one would be moving boxes, one would be taking apart furniture then when they all needed to help each other with large items they would come together and work as a team. Then once we drove an hour to the new house, they continued their work in the same manner as the first hour they started. I was tired of the move but they didn’t show any signs of fatigue or annoyance, sometimes even singing a little tune as they worked. IF you are on the fence about hiring a moving company, use this one! You will not be disappointed and even better… your expectations will be far exceeded by the team they send!
I’ve moved around a lot and dealt with many moving companies and this was by far the most pleasant experience. Kat over at the office was great, and the guys who packed and transported my belongings were quick and conscientious. I’ll be using them again for sure.
Very nice people from beginning to end. The movers (team of three) were great. They were moving a little slow in the morning, but picked it back up toward the end. I would suggest packing all of your belongings before they get there, unless you’re looking/willing to pay for more time and materials. We packed and they did our 450sqft apartment in about 2 hours. They delivered, unpacked and reassembled all of our stuff in about 1 hour.
OK… paying $60 to Yelp gets you a $150 credit with them… +1 star for saving me $90!

4 more stars are given for great customer service, from initial contact, to follow-up, to confirmation a day or so before the move, to the move itself and to follow the day after.  I couldn’t imagine a more helpful, courteous experience.

They saw the size of my move (a FULL 30′ truck) and sent 4 guys + the truck for my move.  The guys were almost jogging back and forth from the house to the truck.

They were very thorough in explaining the anticipated charges (to avoid surprises) and respected my time.  

If I move in the SF area again, I know that I’ll call them first.
