I have now used Northstar moving 3 times in the past 4 years and each time, I am never let down. It starts with the ease of contacting the office to set up an appointment. Within a couple hours, all the paperwork is completed and ready to go. The truck arrives on time with hard working people who are friendly, trustworthy, and fast. Eric in particular led his crew on an 8 hour day that could not have run smoother. I appreciate everyones hard work, positive attitude, and responsible work ethic which made a stressful moving day much easier. Thanks for everything. You guys deserve it!!
The thought of moving was incredibly stressful – have never used a moving company before..juut knew that I didn’t have the time or energy to do another move on my own! I considered a couple of companies and got a few estimates. I can say without a doubt, that my experience was beyond wonderful. Ron Cohen handled my initial survery and all the logistics of the move. He was professional, courteous, and an absolute privilege to work with…readily available by telephone or email, answered all my questions, provided superb excellent service, and overall a really great person! The three person crew that was sent over were kind, professional, extremely careful with all of my belongings, and SO NICE. I was incredibly impressed with my entire experience and I will definitely use them again! I highly recommend this company.
I have used NorthStar 3 times to move within California and was satisfied each time! They are very professional and courteous – not only as far as the actual movers are concerned – but also everyone I spoke to over the phone to arrange and coordinate all the details. The also do a professional follow-up to assure everything went alright which reflects they care about their clients and are constantly looking to satisfy. I would highly recommend them to anyone of my friends! I also had the distinct pleasure of working with Lynn Ben-Shimon who was the one I spoke to on the phone (and several times after) to set up the dates/details for all my moves! She is extremely courteous, professional, and likeable and made what is usually a stressful experience (MOVING) seem like a walk in the park!
I needed to move from a Brentwood apartment (Barrington Plaza) to a Pacific Palisades house. I am a very busy individual, and needed the moving company to take care of packing and uppacking as well. Northstar service was as good as it gets. For serservation, I called and I told them the apartment size, and they told me that I needed a 3 men crew and 1 truck at the rate of $115.00 per hour. The packing material would be extra unles I supplied them. I had them do it as the prices were reasonable. On the move day, the movers arrived 30 minutes earlier than originally planned and asked if I want them to start earlier, or to wait to start on the hour. Of course, I asked them to start right away. They started packing at 9:30am and by 1:00pm everything was in their truck! I was working on my laptop the whole time! After lunch, we got to Pacific Palisades at 2pm. They started unpacking, and only asked me where everything should go to. By 4:30pm, everything was unpacked and placed in appropriate places (even the frames!). All the staff were super professional and worked very hard and efficiently. Nothing was damaged during the move. This was the most pleasant move that one could ask for! Thank you NorthStar!
This is the 2nd time my husband and I have used NorthStar moving, and if we move again, it won’t be the last. After getting estimates from 3 moving companies, NorthStar moving’s prices were not only competitive, but they offered 30 days free storage if we needed it (the other moving companies charged for storage). Our most recent move was from the Los Angeles area to the Bay Area. Ron Cohen managed our move and we couldn’t be happier. He was very professional, flexible, and followed up with us all along the way to ensure our moving needs were taken care of. The movers themselves were on-time, professional, and best of all, they wrapped and transported all of our household items so well that nothing was damaged! After all of our items were unpacked, we had a sea of empty boxes laying around. I called to request NorthStar pick them up and they came the same day I called and hauled them all away. Impressive! I would use NorthStar moving again in a heart beat. Moving is such a stressful time but NorthStar really helps to reduce the stress – thanks for a great moving experience!
We just used them to move from West Los Angeles to Sacramento, and they did a great job. I was shocked that nothing was broken or damaged. The movers were quick, nice, and professional, and the cost ended up being less than the estimated cost from Ron.
Our cross-country move was somewhat complicated–we had to change dates at the last minute, access to the apartment was difficult on the pickup and delivery ends, and it was excessively hot and humid on both ends–and NorthStar and its affiliates were flexible and professional the whole time. Everything arrived with minimal damage, the movers themselves were polite and efficient, we witnessed some epic maneuvering of very large trucks in very tight places. Given the complexity of the job, the cost was very reasonable, and the company stuck to the quote that we were given up front. Moving is never easy, especially moving long distance, and we’re glad we went with this company; we’d call them again if we ever have to repeat this process. Show owner comment »
After seeing so many great Yelp reviews for NorthStar Moving, my husband and I decided to hire them to move us from the Westside to downtown LA.  Our move had the potential to be a bit tricky as it involved moving a lot of stuff up and down lots of stairs (in both the house we moved from and to the loft we moved to), through long, narrow, twisty hallways, and relying on a temperamental elevator.    

NorthStar was very professional and reliable throughout the whole process.  Prior to the move, we were provided an estimate of the amount that the moving costs would not surpass, and were told that if the movers finished more quickly, it would be cheaper for us.  The day before the move, we received a confirmation email/call.  The day of the move, 6 movers arrived at 7:30 am.  They were everything that you would ever want in great movers – fast, friendly, courteous, efficient, and hard working.  We were especially impressed by how well-organized and coordinated they were (which made the move go much more quickly than expected).  And they mentioned that they worked well together because they communicated well with each other.  By 2:30 or 3 pm all our stuff had been successfully moved to our new place and the bill came in well below the estimate/quote.  

This was one of the smoothest and most pain-free moves we’ve ever had.  NorthStar definitely deserves every one of the five stars.  We will definitely use them again for our next move.
Moving is such a stressful experience, and if you want to make your life easier, get the right movers. Emphasis on “the right.” I think we’ve all heard or experienced horror stories about movers– your stuff is junk to them and they know you’ve got no other choice than to let them do their thing on the big day, so usually they don’t give a crap. Almost always there’s a broken item, and usually it’s the one you’re most attached to! Murphy’s law! NorthStar Moving, however, prides itself on positive feedback. Really! I’ve had Ron, my moving “consultant,” gently nudge me once or twice because I promised him a good review because I was so happy with them and didn’t follow through. Are you still stuck on “moving consultant?” Allow me to explain… When you call NorthStar to inquire about your move they offer to have someone come to your place, assess your situation, and give you a quote and a game plan– all free of charge and free of commitment. So, I was lucky enough to get Ron. He came over, took a look around, asked a few questions, and told us to go to the movies. Yes, he did. My boyfriend and I were already feeling overwhelmed with how much packing we thought we had to do, and he reassured us that it wasn’t so bad, to do 2 boxes a day and we’d be fine. “Really? Just 2 boxes a day until our move? But what about wrappi…” “We’ll take care of that?” Ron would respond. “But what about….” “We’ll handle that too.” “So you mean we don’t have to empty the…” “Nope, we’ll do that. You should go see that movie you want to see.” Wow, my moving experience just got a whole lot less stressful, and we hadn’t even started yet. Then, Ron gave us a quote which he explained in detail. He gave a us a worse case scenario quote, included all of the fees (driving, wrapping, etc.) and let me tell you, it was so reasonable! And he told me about this coupon on yelp to save us $50. He assured us that even if the move took longer, or something unexpected came up, the price he gave us was the max. That felt incredible. I absolutely despise when companies tack on fees in the end that end up costing you a ton more than you were expecting. Not NorthStar! And then there’s the movers– Adolfo’s team was awesome. So respectful, relaxed, and CAREFUL! Although they were quick as lightning, I mean they’re professionals, so why was I surprised, they wrapped everything thoroughly and carefully. Nothing was broken– and we have delicate items (not because they’re expensive but because they’re from IKEA). Not even the wobbliest piece of wood board was cracked. My boyfriend and I were thoroughly impressed. There wasn’t one hitch on our moving day, and it wasn’t a penny over what Ron said. We’re moved in with all of our belongings in perfect condition. Will definitely use NorthStar again! Happy Moving.

NorthStar has made moving (and packing) simple, speedy, affordable, and pleasant. I just finished my third and longest move with NorthStar. My first experience was moving a single block in Downtown LA, the second from Downtown to Santa Monica, and the third from Santa Monica to Marin County in the SF Bay Area. Each time has been simple, pleasant, and easy on my finances. In my time in LA (10+ years) I have moved nearly every other year and used to always rent a UHAUL, buy tons of boxes, and ruin friendships begging for help– using NorthStar is significantly easier and cheaper, and you get to keep your friends. My latest move was the most complex given two pick-up sights, one of which needed to be packed and a drop-off location that required some skilled driving through tiny/winding roads. We scheduled an in-home estimate (working over the phone is easier than email with them, so just call, they are super accommodating) easily, our contact person, Ron Cohen, was friendly and helped us to think through all the parts of the move we needed. We scheduled an exclusive move (which for the amount of stuff we had was not significantly more money) so that we could have a 2-day window of drop off scheduled. One thing to note: they did require that I pay in cash or with a debit card: 1/2 on pickup, 1/2 on delivery- no credit cards or checks accepted. On the day of pick-up the team arrived at the earliest side of the window and packed an entire medium-sized one-bedroom apartment in just over 4 hours, numbering and cataloguing each box as they packed it; packing fragile items extremely carefully with blankets and cardboard. The pick-up at the second location (already packed) took about an hour because they also had to wrap up fragile items. The drop off went smoothly, arriving earlier than I had initially thought was possible. Crews on both ends were incredibly great– friendly, helpful, professional, and quick. A huge thank you to NorthStar, their representatives, and crewmembers for making a bit of a stressful activity into one that was easily conducted and affordable.
We moved from California to Ohio in April 2011. We picked the NorthStar after interviewing 6 different moving companies, and we have no regret. Everybody we dealt with was very professional, reliable, and friendly. Specifically, we’d like to mention Adam Dadaev, Ron Cohen, and the driver, Andrey. Everything was picked up and delivered on schedule and in perfect shape. The delivery guys assembled all the furniture in our new place and clean up everything. We’ve been moving a lot lately using different moving companies, but these guys were the best, by far. We are moving back to California in three years, and we will definitely use them again.
We move a lot so we’ve definitely encountered more than our share of moving companies. Northstar was great from the time I first contacted them to the completion of the move and even through the follow-up contact (I can’t remember any other company that ever did that. Usually the estimator and office staff go into hiding after the move because they expect complaints.). The estimator, Ron Cohen, was prompt, professional and very accurate as to the amount of man-power and hours that would be required. I got 4 estimates and the Northstar one was the most complete and one of the least expensive (and they still came in under the estimate!!!). Ron thought of everything I might need, answered all my questions and was very accommodating despite the fact our move involved more than one pickup point and other complications. I liked the binding estimate and the fact everything was in writing and clearly spelled out. I also appreciated the confirmation notices I received from Ron and the Northstar office star. Everyone was always professional and friendly. And Ron was super prompt and thorough in responding to emails when I had questions or concerns. The actual movers worked HARD! I never saw those guys lazing around for even a second and I never heard them complaining about the work or their company (a frequent occurrence with previous movers). They were very nice and were careful with our things. I never got any attitude from them, despite several flights of stairs to navigate and a lot of hemming and hawing from me about where things should go. They were super fast but also careful of our things and our new house. I would highly recommend this company and Ron! I only wish I had known about them before.
I contracted with North Star after a recommendation by a family member who had used them once before. This was for a move of a one bedroom apartment – furniture only. The three man team arrived on time and constantly hustled. I was completely moved out and into my new home in 3 hours. They were careful with my goods and wrapped each item in either shrink wrap and/or moving blankets. Everything arrived safely was placed where I wanted it. They even used plastic sheets to protect my new rug from dirt. I would recommend this company highly.
Great experience!!! Fast service. They got my entire house moved in three hours. They even took the time to set up my bed and help me get rid of my boxes. They also helped me set up my desk and entertainment center. Wendy in the office was super helpful. The customer service this company provides is amazing. I would definitely use them again.
Service was great! Our move was a short distance, but our stuff was heavy and our new place is on the 4th floor. We paid for 3 movers, but four showed up… still, they only charged us for three! They did a good job wrapping everything, and were careful to tell us that wrapping major things costs 8 bucks per item. I think they actually undercharged us for that too, not sure, but it seemed cheaper than it should have. When moving the stuff in, they had to maneuver around a very tough staircase with brand new white walls around it, they it it exactly twice, for two small scuffs. I could tell they felt bad. But, fact is, I didn’t do any better with the stuff I moved, it was kind of like forcing them to play a really hard version of the old game “operation.” So it was a good experience, I’d use them again.
I just moved and this was the second time I’ve used Northstar. All I can say is that they are absolutely fantastic. We had so much stuff. I was completely stressed before moving. From the first moment of contact my anxiety was put at ease. I spoke to a great sales rep named Jessica. She walked me through the process and was incredibly helpful. She was patient and knowledgeable and everything that happened was exactly how she said it would. Smooth and efficient. Not one problem. The movers were focused, helpful, and fast. Ours was a slightly complicated move, going from a house to a building. They made sure to be careful of all the public areas, and laid down masonite on the floor not to damage anything. Once inside our house, they took great care with all of our belongings. Also, I never for a second felt like they were trying to waste time or stay on the clock. I will definitely use Northstar again. There are lots of companies out there, and I have heard many horror stories about moving. I am so lucky that I used Northstar! THE BEST!
We just completed our 2nd move with NorthStar. Our sales rep. Ron Cohen was wonderful and the moving crew was AMAZING!!!! The crew arrived on time and was very efficient. I have a funny story to share. The day of the move we were also having new furniture we dellivered from a furniture store. The delivery guys had been struggling for a half hour to get a sleeper sofa into an office. They had told my husband that the sofa was too large and was IMPOSSIBLE to fit around the tight corner. they said that we would have to use the sofa somewhere else in the house. The NorthStar crew pulled up, said they could do it and had the sofa in the room in less than 60 seconds. My husband said that the look on the other delivery guys faces was priceless! On top of all that, we came in under the quote for the second time, even with tip! I will never call another company and refer them to evryone we know.
These guys were excellent. They were very accomodating and efficient. They hustled and even saved me a little money from the estimate, as they completed the move in shorter time than anticipated. They placed everything where I wanted and always checked with me to see it was done properly. I would recommend them to anyone needing to move……….
I had a great experience with these guys. They were professional and competent from start to finish. They were immediately available to answer all questions and contact me to confirm details and my appointment. They were flexible with me as I had to reschedule a couple of times. The movers arrived 5 minutes early on the move date and were quick and careful and personable. They were extremely careful with the furniture as well as the new hardwood floors and paint. The office called to follow up the next day and make sure I had a good experience. I had read many of the review so I had expected things would go well, but the experience totally exceeded my expectations and I would recommend this company without hesitation.

My son just moved from LA to Charleston, SC and I was in charge of the moving, after contacting and getting quotes from several moving companies I was lucky to contact and contract with Jessica who was kind, informative and professional in regards to details and pricing. So very pleased I chose NorthStar Movers this time around. If you read my previous reviews, I used a moving company two years ago to move 400 miles. I did my homework and had chosen what seemed to be a reputable company. They ended up being a complete disaster, refused to make up for their poor service, and I took them to court. I was awarded a judgement and then had to send the sheriff to collect, 9 months later. This time I was doing a local move, which is always simpler, but was concerned about making the same mistake twice. I initially chose Northstar because of their glowing reviews on Yelp. Also if you go read about them on the BBB you will see that the owner personally and professionally responds to each complaint, putting their money where their mouth is. I called a month in advance and they sent Barak out to do an initial estimate and inspection. It was a fairly simple move but our new location had two flights of stairs which he had to add additional coverage for. He estimated a 4 man crew would take a maximum of 6 hours. I also asked to specify a certain arrival time, as we were trying to coordinate the move with parking availability and street sweeping. The day of the move the movers showed up exactly when I asked them to and were ready to work. Augustine was the Lead and his crew was Jose, William, and Adolfo. They all began moving quickly and professionally, having our residence loaded up within 2 hours. We had run short of boxes in packing and had items in bags and various containers. They did whatever they could to pack those items as well so they were not damaged and could be moved. At our new home they worked just as fast. We asked that they unwrap the bottoms of each piece before uncovering it so we could add floor protection for our hardwood floors. They were diligent about helping us do that, even if it slowed them down. Much to our delight they finished up within 2.5 hours, coming in 1.5 hours under our maximum estimate. They also let you pay with a credit card and don’t make you pay the surcharge (except Amex). We were thrilled! Every person I spoke with at Northstar was professional and courteous, and wanted to make sure I received great care. It was such a delight to have such a positive experience this time around. I will gladly recommend them to anyone who needs to use a moving company in the future. Bravo!
I used NorthStar to move from one apartment to another within L.A. in 2006, and then again last week when I moved items to a storage unit while heading out of town. They are FAST, efficient and professional. And Lynn makes sure to take care of your every need. Great company. Moving is stressful but picking them again would be an easy decision.
First, I want to let you now that this review is entirely unsolicited. Now, I need you to know that if you are in the San Fernando Valley, and are planning to move now or in the future, you must call NorthStar. I will go one step further. I dealt exclusively with Project Manager, Ilan Dahan. He was available, consistent, reliable, and the most accomodating person under any circumstances. I called Ilan with one day’s notice on not one occasion, but two. His crew arrived on time, and ready to work. And work they did! They were professional in every manner. The moves were commercial in nature, so it was important that there was as little downtime as possible. There wasn’t one minute of downtime from our old offices to the new. It was smooth, and as stress free as a move could be. Suffice it to say that I can’t speak highly enough of Ilan, his crew, and NorthStar.
I had an absolutely great experience with the team from Northstar on my recent move from the West side. Ilan Dahan, the on site estimator, was very personable, professional and experienced, and gave me a fair quote that he even bettered by the time I booked them for the job. We had an initial mixup upon our first meeting, and he and the other staff at Northstar were so communicative about making up for it (and it was minor) that they impressed me with their customer service. I probably received three follow up phone calls regarding the matter- very good. I knew they were worth giving a try. They also had been recommended to me by a friend who had a very good experience with them. The team that arrived, and worked hard ALL DAY, were Elisio Figeroa, Jamie Serrano, and Francisco Fernandez. These men were on time, courteous and incredibly professional in their work. And crazy strong! They spent probably double the time my other moving company spent – and my quote prior to the job was exactly what I paid when the job was completed. I highly recommend my team from Northstar. I hope their bosses give them all a raise. They are employees worth having. Great job, guys, and thank you.
