I’ve used NorthStar Moving for 3 moves now. All of them were between SoCal and Norcal, and I’ve been very happy each time.
My most recent move, in particular, was excellent thanks largely in part to Kevin R who was the primary person who helped with packing and moving out of my old house as well as unpacking and dropping off. Kevin is super friendly, helpful, and professional. His communication throughout the process and move was excellent, and I always felt taken care of. The rest of the NorthStar Moving team was great as well.
I needed to move with very short notice (less than a week), and NorthStar gladly accommodated. I was able to schedule a virtual walkthrough (via FaceTime) of my house to obtain an estimate and have movers at my house the very next day. The estimate was accurate; there were no surprise charges later on. I spent around $7400 on my move, which included some assistance with packing certain items (2 TVs, 2 mattresses, 2 desks, rowing machine, lamps, & miscellaneous smaller items), but I boxed up most of the stuff myself. I had a 4 bed house (which was not completely full of stuff, so the price will certainly vary based on your walkthrough). To be honest, I didn’t spend a lot of time shopping around, but I had used NorthStar in the past and had good experiences. Of my 3 moves, I only had some minor damage to a cheap Ikea dresser made of particle board, so no big deal there.
NorthStar does include some very minimal basic insurance for damages of 60 cents per pound on your stuff (at no additional cost), but there is an option to pay for additional coverage. I opted for additional coverage on some of my more valuable items (sofa, desks, TV, rowing machine). This insurance costs 3.5%-4.25% of the declared value plus a deductible of $100-$1000 (depending on which percent you opt to pay) with an optional $50 per item for interior damage of electronics. I believe there’s a more comprehensive (and pricier) insurance option as well. In the end, the insurance was just for peace of mind because my items arrived undamaged.
I’d definitely recommend NorthStar and would certainly use them again if I happen to be doing another longer distance move. A real, live person actually picks up the phone when you call them, and I didn’t have to wait a long time either. All the folks I spoke to (Gil, the estimator person… Kristi, the lady who helped with insurance… and the initial person on the phone whose name I didn’t catch) were very friendly and professional. And, they were all very patient with my dumb questions.
I can’t really compare NorthStar to other movers since I’ve been loyal to them, but they haven’t let me down in 3 moves, so I’ll be sticking with them.
The team was awesome! Nothing but good things to say about this moving company, they helped me move my 1bedroom apt in 2 hours and were super careful with all of my things! I would highly recommend and will definitely be using them next time I move, thank you guys!
Super legit. 10/10 would use again. I have a lot of things going on right now (we all do), but NorthStar truly made the logistics of setting up the move and the actual execution so clear and easy.
Logistics: I appreciated how transparent they were about pricing. They sent clear follow up emails about their rate, as well as insurance options. Sometimes phone calls can be annoying, but I super appreciated them following up on booking a time, and reviewing details the day before to ensure we were on the same page.
The day of: the guys were really friendly and speedy. Francisco was in charge and he had Israel and another great gentleman assisting — all three were super friendly and accommodating– and FAST. And nothing broke!
Pricing: I moved from a studio in Inglewood to the west side and it was thankfully well under the 3 hour minimum, especially with 3 guys. Make sure to check if they’re offering a Yelp deal.
Parking: for those who have street parking, I just so happened to book my appointment close to street sweeping timing. It ended up being perfect because the moving truck was parking just as street cleaning ended — definitely recommend coordinating it that way!
Isael Cris Juan Eulalio were great!!!! They took great care with all of our belongings. They arrived in time and were very patient and professional.

Great communication and easy (or as easy as moving can be) experience moving cross-country from San Francisco to Boston. A friend recommended NorthStar to us after a great experience moving from SF to Philly, and we would now recommend NorthStar to our friends. NorthStar was able to work with our moving timeline, quoted us a pretty reasonable price, and was very on top of the whole process, calling us at each step to make sure everything was okay. We packed our own boxes but NorthStar did all the furniture and everything arrived in great shape.

After getting many quotes some that were 3x the end price of our move we went with NorthStar. Originally we were going with a 3man team with expectations of a 4-6hr move time. The service team was amazing they called to confirm offered many different protection policies and at 4pm the day before our move date they were able to add a 4th guy and packing services.
The day of the move we received a call from the lead of our moving team Kevin R informing us they were on there way and be there in 40mins. I received a text telling me they were 5mins out. Once there I walked him through our complex so they could assess the easiest way for them to get in and out. His team Kevin A, Andrew M and Irvin U were very kindquick and respectful. To get our fridge out they had to completely remove our sliding glass door and replace it back in. Insanity. They took it last and made sure to move it in and plug it in before lunch so that some sensitive medication didn’t got bad. They went above and beyond. I would 100% recommend them.
We recently moved an elderly relative from San Francisco to San Diego and NorthStar Moving was fantastic. We needed full service so added packing and additional insurance. I recently moved into my new place and I HIGHLY recommend this team. Avner and his team made my move seamless and stress free. Communication was prompt, clear and without hassle.
