Food Drive Provides Over 779,000 Meals Since Its Inception

NorthStar Moving® Company, the leading eco-luxury mover in California, announced the completion of their 12th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing food drive, raising crucial funds to support hungry children in Los Angeles County—the U.S. county with the highest number of food-insecure children.

Partnering once again with Compass Real Estate, the virtual food drive generated donations for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. These contributions provided over 37,000 meals to local children and families in need, addressing the critical gap in nourishment during the summer months when school-provided meals are unavailable.

“Thanks to the generosity of our partners and friends we were able to make kids’ lives in our community a little easier this summer,” said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder Laura McHolm. “Since we first launched Let’s Send Hunger Packing, we’ve provided over 779,000 meals to families in need. Look what we can all do, when we come together. Together, we can lift up our neighbors and nourish all the hungry kids in our own backyard.”

Los Angeles County continues to struggle with food insecurity, especially in the face of rising inflation, with food banks experiencing increased demand but fewer donations in summer months. The 2024 Let’s Send Hunger Packing drive helped the LA Regional Food Bank manage this rising demand.

“Partnerships are essential in the fight against hunger, and we thank NorthStar Moving and Compass Real Estate for their ongoing commitment to helping our neighbors receive food and nutrition assistance,” said Los Angeles Regional Food Bank President and CEO Michael Flood. “The generosity shown through this initiative highlights the power of collective action to address the ongoing challenge of food insecurity in Los Angeles County.”

While the 2024 Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive has concluded, the need continues, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is accepting donations year-round to support children and families across the county.

12th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive Launches to Feed Hungry Children in LA County

Los Angeles, CA, June 03, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —  NorthStar Moving® Company, the leading eco-luxury mover in California, announced today the launch of their 12th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive.

Los Angeles County is home to more food-insecure children than any other county in the U.S. To help address this dire situation, NorthStar Moving has once again teamed up with Compass Real Estate to raise much-needed funds for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to feed hungry children in LA County this summer.

“Nutrition insecurity is a heartbreaking reality in Los Angeles County, where more children face food insecurity than anywhere else in the nation,” said President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Michael Flood. “We are grateful for NorthStar Moving’s continued support through their Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive, which helps us in our fight against hunger.”

In California, 2 million children live in low-income households affected by hunger. For some children, the only meal they receive is at school. Many families turn to food banks for assistance when school is out for the summer. However, food banks can experience a decline in donations during the summer months.

“Over the last 11 years, our award-winning Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive has provided 742,036 meals on our children’s tables,” said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder Laura McHolm. “While that fills my heart, my heart is also broken. The surge in inflation continues to escalate the rate of hunger in our backyard. Instead of clicking for your take-out tonight, please click the donate button on our food drive instead. For the price of your $25 take-out, you can provide 100 meals! If we all donate, we can make a real difference in the lives of families that are working hard to feed their children. Virtual food drives like ours allow the LA Regional Food Bank to serve an average of 900,000 people every month. Please join us in helping the LA Regional Food Bank feed kids this summer!

The 12th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive is completely online and runs through July 1, 2024. Please make a monetary online donation today HERE.

All donations will directly assist the needs of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

NorthStar Moving teams up with Compass Real Estate for 11th annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” Food Drive

Los Angeles, CA, June 26, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NorthStar Moving® Company, the leading eco-luxury mover in California, announced today the launch of their 11th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive. Recent data revealed a growing hunger crisis in Los Angeles County. The online food drive is a simple way to raise the much needed funds to provide meals to children this summer.

According to a recent survey conducted by the USC Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research, nearly 37% of low-income families in greater Los Angeles experienced food insecurity in 2022. Due to the U.S. government’s recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) many families are struggling to put food on the table. In Los Angeles County, where the cost of living is high, hunger rates are near peak pandemic levels.

In response, NorthStar Moving has once again teamed up with Compass Real Estate to raise much needed funds for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in order to feed hungry children in LA County. “Last year our food drive was named Top Fundraiser of the Year by the LA Regional Food Bank. Our goal is to break that record this year,” said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder Laura McHolm. “We believe we can, thanks to the help of our incredible partner, Compass Real Estate, and, of course, all of you. The need is extremely real and heartbreaking. It’s unfathomable that one in four children right here in LA County will go to bed hungry tonight.”

Without proper nutrition children’s health, growth and development are greatly impacted. In California, 2 million children live in low-income households affected by hunger. For some children the only meal they receive is at school. When school is out for the summer, families turn to a food bank for assistance. However, food banks often experience a decline of donations during the summer months.

“We’re grateful for the ongoing partnership with NorthStar Moving Company and Compass Real Estate as they launch the 11th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive,” said LA Regional Food Bank President and CEO Michael Flood. “Together, we’re addressing child hunger in LA County. With their support and community generosity, we can make a profound impact. Thank you to NorthStar Moving Company and Compass Real Estate for standing with us in the fight against hunger.”

“Our Let’s Send Hunger Food Drive is an easy way to move awareness into action, to assist our kids in need,” said McHolm. “Please join us to help the LA Food Bank put desperately needed food on our children’s tables.”

The 11th Annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing Food Drive is completely online and runs through July 31, 2023. Please make a monetary online donation today HERE.

All donations will directly assist the needs of our hero: the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

NorthStar Moving® Company, the leading eco-luxury mover in California, announced today a new partnership with Homeboy Electronics Recycling, a certified and award-winning social enterprise providing proper disposal of IT assets. The new partnership provides NorthStar Moving’s corporate clients with secure and seamless recycling of old electronics prior to an office relocation.

Homeboy Electronics Recycling provides corporate customers with electronics recycling solutions while employing people who face systemic barriers to work. As a Responsible Recycling (R2) certified company, they provide proper disposal and management of IT assets under strict guidelines. Their team recycles computers, mobile phones, printers and other devices that can’t be refurbished in a manner that protects our environment. • Certified Electronics Recycling

“This is such a simple way to do good. Do good for mother earth, do good for humanity and do good for your company’s move,” said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder & Chief of Organized Living Laura McHolm. “The United Nations estimates that global e-waste could increase to 74.7 million tons a year by 2030. We all need to do our part to stop the immense dumping of e-waste into landfills. Homeboy Electronics Recycling is making an  impact and we are absolutely thrilled to partner with them. Our corporate clients can  feel good about where their old electronic devices are headed. Not only does Homeboy recycle your company’s electronics responsibly and securely; they do so by providing job opportunities to people facing barriers to employment. It’s a win for everyone.”

This new service for corporate clients can be requested individually or combined with any of NorthStar Moving’s “Business Extras.”

Office E-Waste – Relocating an office space has many moving parts. One of the biggest tasks is moving servers, computers, printers and other electronic equipment. When you’re moving an office, it is the perfect time to sort through your company’s devices and discard the electronics that are no longer working. However, disposing of retired electronics is a complex process. There is Mother Earth to consider and the security of your data. Tragically, 80% of the 45 million tons of electronic waste, produced globally each year, is thrown into landfills or incinerated. This allows toxic materials to pollute our soil, water and air.  Now, it’s easy to stop this destructive behavior.  We’ve partnered with Homeboy Electronics Recycling because they have the skills to avoid landfills!

NorthStar Moving clients can request a customized electronic recycling solution by filling out this inquiry form.

The Citadel Outlets was one of a few food donations collection points during the food drive. NorthStar Moving was one of a few businesses in the community that partnered with KTLA5 for the food drive.

We loved working with KTLA 5 news and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank on making sure we bring the holiday spirit home to every family’s table. KTLA was at the donations drop off points throughout the day, interviewing people who brought in donations as well as participating companies, including, NorthStar Moving.
