i recently moved from SF to LA. i was travelling for a few months and upon my return, found a new home in LA. i needed to store my belongings until i was done travelling. one of the reasons i went with northstar is that they will store your stuff within the company, not through a third party like some of the other movers i had contacted.

the northstar movers seamlessly and safely moved my belongings out of my SF flat and moved them to a storage unit until i called them four and a half months later telling them i had found a spot in LA and was ready to move in. they had me moved into my new LA apartment six days after that call. the movers seriously were my saviors! such hard workers and very professional and careful, but quick. they wrapped and unwrapped all furniture in moving blankets and set up any furniture that needed to be reassembled. 

while not the cheapest quote i received from a moving company, the quality and service that northstar provides is worth every penny, and choosing them is one of the best ideas i’ve made. their reviews are stellar for a reason — make sure you do your research before choosing a mover. if i ever need movers again, i will definitely consider northstar!

These guys are total professionals. I’ll be happy to use them again in the future. We had a complicated move: LA to San Francisco with stops at storage locations in both places. Was worried that something would go wrong, but Northstar handled it in exemplary fashion. First contact was with Alice at the home office. She was super nice and patient, walked me through the whole process and afterward followed up to make sure all my questions had been answered. A few days later, Ilan came out for a no-cost estimate: He took about 15 mins, did a few calculations and then gave me a price that was more than reasonable. On the day of the move, Carlos and his crew showed up bright and early, and they couldn’t have been friendlier or more professional. We hadn’t had time to pack everything, and these guys made quick work of whatever was left. Seriously, these guys work hard. A few days later, on the day we had arranged, they showed up at our new place in SF and unloaded everything – again, let me emphasize that they work FAST. After the move, I discovered that a few supports from a chaise lounge had fallen off on the move. Called Northstar, spoke to Wendy and after gathering the facts she immediately agreed to cover the whole replacement cost (even though the price to do so was quite high). Moving is never fun, but Northstar really helped minimize the stress. I’d recommend them to anyone.
These guys are the best. We were searching around on yelp for moving companies and my fellow yelpers did not steer us wrong with NorthStar. NorthStar truly deserve much respect and praise. We we’re moving from LA to the Bay Area. We called and got someone to come out to to give us an estimate within 2 days. Ilan was our point of contact and he truly is an exceptional customer service oriented professional. He is very courteous and respectful and represents NorthStar extremely capably. We got $100 discount for mentioning yelp and he even beat his own estimate by $200 with a maximum price locked into his estimate. Our apartment was not ready by the first of the month which exceeded their 30 day free storage policy and he gave us a weeks worth of storage for free. They normally don’t prorate storage so if you exceed the complimentary 30 days, then you would get charge for a full month which is about $150-$200. On moving day 3 guys came and moved us out in 5 hours. The move was estimated to be 3-5 hours to pack and load their truck. Everyone was courteous, worked diligently, and most importantly handled our stuff with care and caution. They have a delivery date range of typically 3-5 days as part of their standard delivery services which is more economical than a hard delivery date. The week of our move, I communicated with Ilan on Monday to see if there was any wiggle room to have our stuff delivered by Friday morning and he said he’d check with his boss/dispatcher and got back to me within 24 hours to confirm that indeed they can make the delivery happen on Friday morning. This is where I am very grateful for NorthStar’s follow through. If I could give extra stars here, they’d get another 3 stars. With two tiny ones, we we’re hoping to move in on a Friday morning so that we can spend the weekend getting settled instead of moving in Saturday or even yikes on Sunday. Move in day went very smoothly. 3 gentleman and 1 lady showed up at 9 am sharp and moved us in in 2 hours including furniture set up and all. We had a tiny casualty, a clock was cracked. But it was a cheap clock and not a big deal for us. Conclusion: This was the most stress and hassle free move ever for us. All thanks to NorthStar and Ilan. We would definitely recommend them and use them again ourselves. PS a nice touch was that Ilan called us on Sunday just to check and see how things went. I recently moved from LA to San Francisco. Northstar’s service and professionalism stood a mile out from the competition. During the quote process, Ron was a dream. He took the time to really understand what I was moving, that I wouldn’t be on site during packing, accommodated my last minute dates, explained my options, made recommendations and gave me a very fair quote. And, I knew the quote was all inclusive and that I could trust I wasn’t going to get a different story and add-ons come moving day (which has happened to me more often than not). Angel and his crew packed my items, and even though I had to manage the move remotely (by phone no less), everything got here, beautifully packed. Ted, Samantha and Cesar were awesome in making sure the details were worked out – and Alberto and Fernando carried everything up – three flights of narrow stairs and didn’t leave until they felt I was taken care of (even after I told them it was fine – they pointed to things that they thought I might want to move from one end of the room to the other – and they were right.) The entire team was a dream and somehow they made moving seem easy. Thanks guys.

Years ago, I worked for the Bekins Company, so I am a bit familiar with the business side of a moving company. After receiving several bids, I selected NorthStar, and I must say that I was 100% satisfied with their quality. My move entailed NorthStar employees packing up my 5 bedroom house, placing it in storage for a year, then delivering it to my new home in the desert. Given that I personally unpacked everything they packed, I can attest to the care that was given to my property. Not one piece of furniture was damaged, and out of several hundred glass and ceramic pieces, only one was broken. It was amazing. All pictures and mirrors came through the move unscathed, clothing in the wardrobe boxes remained hanging and were not even dusty after 12 months of storage.

Very reasonably priced and responsible about calling prior to arriving. I appreciated knowing exactly what I was paying for and when I needed to plan to be home. 

The movers were also so nice and good natured. They helped me disassemble and move an old bed out of my apt. before unloading the stuff in the moving truck into the new place – no questions asked.
Northstar was very helpful and accomodating from the get go. Their schedulers were professional. and the moving crew was friendly and efficient. Overall, they are not the cheapest, but they did everything they could to keep costs minimized. But you get what you pay for. And I think its worth a few extra dollars to get efficiency and good service. I would use them again.
