This is my 3rd move in 2 1/2 years and I have used North Star each time.  I have never been disappointed, they have been super punctual, my crew of 3 worked their butts off, finished a little early and a little under the written estimate (always good).  My previous move (2nd move) was to put all my belongings into storage and I asked them to pack for me too.  First time I had ever done that, always thought it would be too expensive and I would save money.  What was I thinking – I will never pack again.  I saved money AND time by having North Star do all the work and provide the supplies.  It actually cost less than what I had spent on boxes, packing tape and material.  They literally packed everything all in one day and then picked up everything the next day and put it into my storage.  Great Job!  So this last move (3rd move), was a bit more complex, since I was not going to take everything out of storage, but needed to move what I was not taking into a smaller storage, then stop at my sister’s where I had been living for year and pick up, boxes, plants and a refrigerator and then take it all to my new apartment.  Again these guys were professional, fast and always respectful.  

The first moves that North Star did for me, not a single thing was broken or damaged.  This time there were a few items broken and a couple nicks – things happen, but the cool part is that they were the ones to bring it to my attention and suggest that I call Customer Service the next day to see if they would give me a discount.  It is important to know that if you don’t buy additional insurance (through a separate agent), then you get only a very basic coverage by a mover (this is pretty standard in the industry) of .39 cents per pound.  I knew this upfront and have not purchased additional coverage, so needless to say I would only be entitled to a nominal fee for my damages.  But the customer services department offered me a $50 credit/refund check for my damage, without having to go through a long claim process (which was more than I would have been able to get with the nominal insurance coverage).  It certainly didn’t cover my damages, but I took that risk by choosing not to buy additional coverage, so no complaints here.

Hey, but wait, it gets better.  I moved in the beginning of Sept. and today (mid-Oct.),  I get a call from Ron (he is my estimator – I say mine, because he coordinated and estimated all 3 of my moves – I have his name and number programed into my phone), he was calling just to follow-up on how the move went for me.  I told him that I was happy, that the guys worked hard and then I mentioned that there had been some damage this time, but that Customer Service had been kind enough to give me a credit of $50 and that I appreciated it.  He asked what had been damaged and how much I thought that I had cost. Then he said that he would talk with customer services and see if he could get me an additional $50.  Well, Alma (customer service) called me within an hour and asked me to verify my address so she could send me a check for $100.  This kind of customer service just does not exist any more, but it is alive and well at North Star. I recommend them to everyone and will continue to use them in the future (I still have stuff in storage – so ya’ know it is just a matter of time – lol).

Trust North Star with your move. They are fast, careful, affordable, and amazing!

They were wonderful. I showed up an hour or so late, thank you LA traffic, and they were so cool about it and I was not charged extra. They were careful with our things and very friendly. After all the moving horror stories I’ve read I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so painless.

These guys were great. Very professional, hard workers. Tried there best to please me any way they could. I would use them again. Only minor oops but with my super heavy furniture it’s to be expected. The foreman was awesome!!!!!!
My roommate and I used NorthStar on the recommendation of a work colleague, and it turned out great.  First the Yelp coupon is a great value.  I received a prompt call from the company when I submitted an inquiry in the website, and they were very accommodating as I had to move my destination several times (we were both moving into storage units) and responses to emails were very prompt.  All fees were explained up front (California has some weird requirements regarding hourly labor and driving, but everything was on the up and up).

The three movers arrived promptly at the very beginning of the time window they gave me, wrapped the important furniture very well and followed all instructions.  The truck was very well packed and everything seemed secure and did not move around at all.

After moving into the storage units, a few items wouldn’t fit and they even wrapped these for me after the fact so I could ship them elsewhere.

Only minor complaint was that I had to supervise the actual packing of the storage unit, as it was a very tight fit and they didn’t use a lot of common sense when putting things into the unit so we had to take things out and retry a few times before it all fit.  

Overall a great experience, would highly recommend Northstar to anyone looking for a very professional and competent moving company who wants to avoid the general sketchy feel that I think the moving industry has!
Two years after our move from SF to LA, we have returned to SF!  Unfortunately, we could not use NorthStar for the move back (my husband’s company paid for the move so we were stuck with their choice of movers).  I say unfortunately because our experience moving with NorthStar was superior to our current experience.  

Due to issues with our current move, I’ve had to contact NorthStar on multiple occasions for information and records from our last move.  Despite not having our current business, Ram, Daisy, and the whole team at NorthStar have been nothing but helpful, courteous, and professional!
