I chose NorthStar Moving Company to help me move from my old apartment to the one in which I am currently residing, and they were great. In fact, when I need to move again in the future (due to present circumstances, that is looking like in a year from now), I will be hiring them again. The movers were careful and polite, and they were surprisingly prompt. They arrived early in the morning exactly when they were scheduled, and they finished the move in the minimum time required. While other movers sometimes dawdle the actual transportation process in order to increase the amount of hours worked, my movers finished in just over three hours (which I would consider the bare minimum required to complete a move like mine), saving me time and expense. I wholeheartedly recommend NorthStar. If you call them to arrange a move, let Stefy know on the phone that she totally rocks.
NorthStar Moving Co. was great. They were efficient, respectful, and pleasant. From Barak, the moving Rep, to the movers, to Wendy, and everyone involved-they treated us right. I would highly recommend them. We moved a four bedroom house from california to an apartment in NYC, thanks to NorthStar.
Everything went wonderfully with my mother’s recent move from Southern California to the Puget Sound area in Washington state, thanks to the expert support we had from NorthStar (especially from Ron, who went out to my mother’s house and drew up her “not to exceed” quote and paperwork -as well as- the team of highly professional movers working at both the origin and destination locations). We are grateful to everyone involved that my mother’s move was as smooth and easy as it was. I highly recommend NorthStar for interstate moves.
After receiving quotes from many movers I narrowed it down to NorthStar and I made the right choice. They were on time, professional, hard working and moved at a fast pace but still careful with all my items. From the initial estimate, logistics to delivery they were available to answer my call any time i had a question or concern. Love them!
I have heard scare stories about moving companies, scammers and rip off artists…and especially with a major cross country move I was apprehensive. I got the referral for Northstar from a coworker who recently moved from Calif to Penns. and she raved over this company… Well, having just this week completed a cross country move of my own, Northstar is truly a wonderful company. Everyone I dealt with, from the people who took my calls, to Gil who came and assessed my belongings and answered every single question of mine, to the movers themselves…everyone was delightful, patient, smart, aware and caring. The cost was extremely reasonable and there were NO and I mean NO hidden charges. I paid exactly to the penny what I was told it would cost. I highly recommend this ethical and professional company
I was moving across country from CA to NC so I had called a bunch of places for a quote that . Everywhere I called “estimated’ what my move would cost but could not guarantee a rate, Northstar and 1 other company were the only ones willing to come out and actually write up a formal, accurate quote. Ron Cohen came and provided a bid and a ton of information to me! He clearly is very experienced in this industry and gave me tips and pointed out things I hadn’t even thought about regarding packing/moving. He made me feel very comfortable about the company so I went with them and it was a great decision. He was helpful the whole way, responded quickly to all questions and provided me with updates along the way. The communication was great with delivery as well, the driver called a couple days in advance to set up a delivery date, then called the day before as promised. I will definitely call Ron again and hire Northstar for any future moves!!
I recently moved from LA to NYC and wanted to share the wonderful and stress free experience I had while using NorthStar Moving Corp. To begin, I was any stress I had was immediately alleviated when Ron Cohen came by two weeks before my move. He was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Before the move, I got a call 24 hours in advance confirming pick up time and another call before my stuff was delivered. As far as the move went; The moving crew arrived on time picking up my stuff in LA, was delivered in NY within 10 days, there were no damages, no hidden fees, and it was fairly priced. On a final note, it was an added touch when I received a call two days later from Ron, checking on how my move went. You can’t beat using NorthStar for a short or long move!
We moved to Seattle from Los Angeles and Northstar made everything easier! Ron Cohen in particular took great care of us at a great price. If you need to move in or from LA, Ron is your guy!
Another great find, thanks to Yelp!

As I was preparing for my cross country move from Los Angeles to New York, I was stressing out about what moving company to use to haul all the contents of my 1 bedroom apartment.  After all, I had heard so many horror stories about how people were quoted one price, and ended up paying like 3 times as much after the move.  Then I came across NorthStar Moving on Yelp, and decided to agree to do the consultation after reading all the positive reviews to get myself an estimate.

I informed them from the beginning that although I needed the pick up on March 30th, I wasn’t going to fly to NY until April 5th, and so I couldn’t receive the delivery until after the 5th.  They were completely accommodating, and pushed back my delivery window to be between April 6-12.  Furthermore, I didn’t have a destination address in NY when my stuff was picked up, but they didn’t make a big deal out of it at all.  They just asked that I either email it to them or let the driver know when they call me a day before the delivery what the address is.  2 thumbs up for customer service already.

So it turns out there are 2 ways they can charge you for a long distance move…by weight (which they determine after they already pack your stuff and take it to their facility), or by a flat fee system they have that includes an estimated weight and a service fee.  After getting my estimate for the flat fee system, I opted to get charged by weight, because I figured that it would ultimately cost me less.  I was right.  How did I find this out?  I literally weighed every single box/furniture I owned by either putting it on my bathroom scale, or by carrying it on the bathroom scale and deducting my weight from it.

I did this, not because I’m OCD and have too much time on my hands, but because people try to take advantage of me and overcharge me everywhere I go.  I have gotten into countless shouting matches with cab drivers who try to long haul me everywhere from LA to NY to Vegas.  They must think, “Hmmm, asian girl probably has no sense of directions…after all, have you seen how they drive??” and try to always take the long way and charge me more.  So for this move, I wanted to be cautious and be extremely aware of what ballpark figure to expect when they weighed my stuff.  Turned out I had nothing to worry about, because the final weight was in the range of what I expected it to be.

On the day of the move, 4 people came, and literally from the minute they walked in the door, they were on top of it.  They wasted no time, with each person getting right to work on their respective duties.  I never knew furniture could get disassembled, wrapped in blankets, and taped up so fast.  After we went over the inventory inside my apartment, they proceeded to load up the moving van.  The movers were in and out of my apartment in 90 minutes flat.  CRAZY FAST!!

Not only were they super quick when picking up from my apartment in LA, but they were just as great when they delivered the stuff in NY.  I ended up putting my stuff in a storage unit, and even the guy working at the storage was like, “Wow, I have to admit, these guys work so fast…they’re good.”  I’m sure the guys at the storage facility come across plenty of movers, and for them to be impressed, it goes to show how great the guys at NorthStar Moving were.

Everyone I came across at NorthStar Moving were super friendly, efficient, accommodating, and just overall awesome guys who make you feel comfortable with something as stressful as a move.  I would absolutely use them again if I move, and would recommend them to anyone looking to do a long distance move.
