OK – moving can be a real pain in the ass, add to that the confusion and “sales” activity of some movers and/or sticker shock for the final bill, it is no fun. NorthStar had a professional and non-fast talking on site quote drafted by Ron Cohen. It was very detailed and included a “not to exceed” price. These folks were not the least expensive, but I had a much higher level of confidence on the quote. I got a email the same day with the written quote and all the details, including the inventory and price. What they moved: 3 bdrm house and a full garage, fast and clean, no breakage, got into the new place same day under the time estimate and right under budget! IF I HAD TO DO ANY MOVING I would call these folks first and save myself some drama.
I had a very complicated move from a house my family has owned for 75 years. As a single mom with five kids I need things to be very organized. Ron who came out to set up the move was simply phenomenal. We had to organize different pack and move days and I had to change dates several times because of the escrow on my house and the new location and their flexibility and constant quick response eliminated all the stress. The team who did the pack and move were simply A+. The team was a pleasure to have at the house, they did a remarkable job, worked as hard as any professional team I’ve ever known. In addition they were smart, organized and respectful. After the move our final bill was a few hundred dollars more than the estimate and when I noted this to the company they immediately adjusted the bill and made a point that the quality of their work and client satisfaction is what drives their company. This is really an extremely well run business and one that was a total pleasure to work with. I actually found them after doing much research (including YELP) and am so thankful that I did.
Northstar sent a team of 3 to move our small but filled to the brim house to San Francisco.  Well, not the house, just the stuff inside.  I called 5 days before the move and there was no trouble scheduling.   They showed up on time calling before they arrived, explained the price carefully, both on the phone and in person.

The team was great, friendly, professional, and efficient.   They loaded the truck in less than 2 hours, and took the stuff up 2 flights to our new flat in less than 3.   All the time they were very friendly, even carrying my too heavy boxes up my new too narrow stairs.   

No damage to anything, everything placed where we wanted it.  Costs exactly as estimated, even a bit cheaper.  What more could I ask?
It was my first time using a moving company, but I didn’t really know what to look for. None of my friends would recommend the companies they used for their moves. I found a few local companies listed on Yelp, but after checking out the business’s website and reading the handful of mixed reviews, I wasn’t feeling confident about any of the options. There was a negative review by Paul C that caught my eye, so I sent him a note through Yelp to find out who he ended up using instead. I checked them out and saw that they have an average rating of 4 1/2 stars with over 270 reviews on Yelp and an A+ rating with BBB, so NorthStar Moving Corp was looking really good. Within 15 minutes of submitting my online request for a quote, I received a call from Diana. She was friendly and answered all my questions, and explained some additional details that this first-timer wouldn’t know to ask. A day prior to my scheduled move, I received a call confirming my appointment. On moving day, the movers arrived on time. They were friendly and careful with all my belongings as if my things were precious antiques. The guys packed up my LA apartment and got me settled in my OC home without damaging any of my belongings or have anything “gone missing”. I was very pleased with my first moving company experience, and as an added bonus, I also got a discount because I found them through Yelp. I highly recommend NorthStar and plan to use them again in the future.
Northstar is SMART. They know that enthusiastic word-of-mouth will get them more business than a Yellow Pages ad, and so their business model is based on making their customers happy. They invest in it. Moving is a leap of faith and can be quite emotional – you’re entrusting your entire estate into someone else’s hands, as well as making a big change in your life. Do yourself a favor and do it with these guys. For a competitive price, I received premium service. From Wendy who worked with me to get the ball rolling. To Ilan, who personally came out and gave me an estimate that he guaranteed wouldn’t be more than what the contract said. To Juan Carlos, Jaime Pevromo, Miguel Garcia, and Rafael who packed and on-loaded our stupidly-heavy furniture – sometimes on their BACKS – with the strength of Norse gods and the easy, sweet attitudes of relaxed surfers: they treated everything as though it was their grandmother’s and did a more thorough job of packing and protecting than I would have done myself. Our off-loading crew, Jesus, Juan Carlos, Giovani, Ramir, and Matt had the additional burden of trying to find parking for a 22-foot truck in downtown San Francisco (I’m too embarrassed to admit to how long it took them – it’s my fault), but they handled everything with great style and grace. Even the dispatchers on the phone – such as Cesar – were exceptional – they speeded up my delivery date – just to help me get into my job faster. Honestly, if every company acted like they really cared about what customers would say about them – they would act more like Northstar. I can’t say enough nice things about these guys. Responsible, professional, competitive, and customer-focused. You won’t be disappointed if you go with them.
I wanted to give you a follow up on your teams move a few weeks ago. In a word, they were really great…ok really great. They did not sit around at all, worked like a great team and really got everything done quickly and professionally. My daughter is 1 and gets under everyone feet, including theirs. They smiled and played with her a little and took great care in watching out for her and our furniture. I would totally recommend you again. Thanks for a great job.
I had an uneventful/successful move. Gadi came to do a walk through and give me an estimate a few days before. Ezekial and 3 of his guys showed up on time on my move date, wrapped up my kitchen and furniture and got me settled in my new apartment in ~5 hours. No damage to any of my furniture. I also have a lot of antiques and art which all arrived in perfect condition. Total came to about half of the estimate (I had a lot of boxes from my prior move). I highly recommend Northstar. It wasn’t cheap, but the peace of mind was worth it.
I highly recommend Northstar after our recent exhausting experience with researching a moving company. My girlfriend and I were looking for a moving company to come and not only do the move but fully pack it up too. We started by only looking on the Better Business Bureau for places with high ratings and contacted about a dozen. From that dozen about 6 made appointments with me to come out and give an in person estimate. We weren’t interested in coming up with a guess over the phone, we wanted it locked in as much as possible so there’d be as few surprises as possible. I can tell you that after a week of thorough research we confidently went with Northstar as our top choice, and to this day we’re happy with our choice. It started with Ron Cohen coming to the house for the estimate. I was honest and told him that we were comparing places and were looking to save money but wanted somewhere good. I knew from reviews to expect this to be one of the more pricey options but a good one. What I was very happy with was that Ron was very straight forward with me, he cut out as much of the extra cost as possible and was willing to come up with a flat rate so there’d be no question as to the final price, and best of all it was actually right in the middle of some of the other estimates, not even close to the highest price. We liked Ron and his professionalism (and the reputation of the company) so much that we happily went with them over a few cheaper options which simply weren’t quite as good. Ron kept every promise, the guys came over bright and early (and ontime) and although we’re still not fully UNPACKED I can tell you that so far nothing more than a solitary light bulb was broken, and they were very professional with the move. It took a while and at the end of the day the flat rate was completely honored and we’re very happy with the experience!
I recently had to move and was not looking forward to the experience. After reading positive reviews on Northstar, I decided to give them a try and am I glad I did! For starters, they arrived on time. They were quick, efficient, courteous and professional throughout the entire move. They padded the more delicate furniture pieces and handled all items carefully. Not a single piece of furniture was broken. Because of them my move was stress-free and quick! I highly recommend them.
NorthStar is the best, and I highly recommend them. Ron Cohen came to my house and gave a professional estimate, coordinated everything, and was constantly available for any questions. Oscar and his crew were extremely professional and efficient. Not a single item was broken. I would use NorthStar again without a doubt, and I highly recommend them to others without any reservation.
