Paying for Northstar movers was money WELL spent. Ron Cohen came to my apartment and gave me a “not to exceed” rate based on the number of items I had. The movers showed up on time (actually a little earlier!) and were super professional througout the process. The pricing was exactly what Ron quoted and everything went smoothly the day of the move. I would highly recommend their services!
Another great find, thanks to Yelp!

As I was preparing for my cross country move from Los Angeles to New York, I was stressing out about what moving company to use to haul all the contents of my 1 bedroom apartment.  After all, I had heard so many horror stories about how people were quoted one price, and ended up paying like 3 times as much after the move.  Then I came across NorthStar Moving on Yelp, and decided to agree to do the consultation after reading all the positive reviews to get myself an estimate.

I informed them from the beginning that although I needed the pick up on March 30th, I wasn’t going to fly to NY until April 5th, and so I couldn’t receive the delivery until after the 5th.  They were completely accommodating, and pushed back my delivery window to be between April 6-12.  Furthermore, I didn’t have a destination address in NY when my stuff was picked up, but they didn’t make a big deal out of it at all.  They just asked that I either email it to them or let the driver know when they call me a day before the delivery what the address is.  2 thumbs up for customer service already.

So it turns out there are 2 ways they can charge you for a long distance move…by weight (which they determine after they already pack your stuff and take it to their facility), or by a flat fee system they have that includes an estimated weight and a service fee.  After getting my estimate for the flat fee system, I opted to get charged by weight, because I figured that it would ultimately cost me less.  I was right.  How did I find this out?  I literally weighed every single box/furniture I owned by either putting it on my bathroom scale, or by carrying it on the bathroom scale and deducting my weight from it.

I did this, not because I’m OCD and have too much time on my hands, but because people try to take advantage of me and overcharge me everywhere I go.  I have gotten into countless shouting matches with cab drivers who try to long haul me everywhere from LA to NY to Vegas.  They must think, “Hmmm, asian girl probably has no sense of directions…after all, have you seen how they drive??” and try to always take the long way and charge me more.  So for this move, I wanted to be cautious and be extremely aware of what ballpark figure to expect when they weighed my stuff.  Turned out I had nothing to worry about, because the final weight was in the range of what I expected it to be.

On the day of the move, 4 people came, and literally from the minute they walked in the door, they were on top of it.  They wasted no time, with each person getting right to work on their respective duties.  I never knew furniture could get disassembled, wrapped in blankets, and taped up so fast.  After we went over the inventory inside my apartment, they proceeded to load up the moving van.  The movers were in and out of my apartment in 90 minutes flat.  CRAZY FAST!!

Not only were they super quick when picking up from my apartment in LA, but they were just as great when they delivered the stuff in NY.  I ended up putting my stuff in a storage unit, and even the guy working at the storage was like, “Wow, I have to admit, these guys work so fast…they’re good.”  I’m sure the guys at the storage facility come across plenty of movers, and for them to be impressed, it goes to show how great the guys at NorthStar Moving were.

Everyone I came across at NorthStar Moving were super friendly, efficient, accommodating, and just overall awesome guys who make you feel comfortable with something as stressful as a move.  I would absolutely use them again if I move, and would recommend them to anyone looking to do a long distance move.

I have to agree with everyone who left four stars. Ron came a week before the move and gave us a quote to move from Glendale to Sherman Oaks. He even advised us on how to arrange to move as economical as possible. This quote was several times less than what we paid to move from Santa Barbara to Glendale (that company ripped us and gave me PMSD – Post Movers Stress Disorder). Four men showed up the following Saturday on time. They worked quickly and hard – my mom has a lot of stuff and it took about three hours just to load the truck. It was a full days job. They were all very professional and friendly. Ron contacted me several days later to check that everything went ok. This company made a big difference for my mom, who is 85 and very high strung. I can’t say enough good things about them!
I moved from NoHo to WeHo 2 weeks ago and NorthStar helped me moving. Jason is my contact person and he arranged my last minute request. Fast and easy. He even called 2 days after my moving and asked about my feedback! On the moving day, NorthStar sent 5 people, again they rocked out with 5 PEOPLE to move my one-bedroom apartment. Imagine how fast it went. I was so happily shocked. It took them about 30 mins to clear out from my old apartment and about 15 mins to move my stuff in to my new place. The moving team was led by Benjamin, he and his team(Juan, Martin, Jose and Oscar) are just purely awesome. Very efficient and handled my stuff very carefully. You guys KICK ASS!!!
Worked with Ron Cohen to get everything set up before the move.  On moving day, the guys were on-time and packed everything quickly and efficiently.  Everything was fantastic.  I’m definitely using them again next time I move.
I used NorthStar for my recent move from LA to Boston and I am very happy and satisfied with their service. The move was well-organized, the estimate was accurate and the delivery was on time with all things intact. NorthStar also kept me informed about the status of the move throughout. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a move.
This is my first review on Yelp. Last time I moved I used Hollywood Movers, and it was one of the most distasteful experiences ever. They were slow, lazy, and they broke a ton of stuff. Northstar was the polar opposite. They explained the quote very clearly, then there was a follow-up call to go over everything about the move. The company called me that morning to tell me the guys were on their way. When the guys arrived, they were friendly and courteous and they listened. They went over the contract in detail. Then they started moving and MAN, it was like I was being moved by the Tasmanian Devil, if said devil was super fast but also careful. They wrapped EVERYTHING in plastic and whenever they found a ding or a flaw, they called me over and showed it to me so they could confirm that there was already damage. They even found natural flaws in the wood of my dresser! They also took the bed apart, which I wasn’t expecting. I forced those poor guys to move all my stuff up a flight of stairs and down a labyrinthine hallway and they just freaking did it without a word. They took one extremely well-deserved break and at no time were they ever grouchy or annoyed. They asked me where to put everything and then asked me again when it was all in if it was all where I wanted it. They went over the contract with me AGAIN, and then I paid. It was reasonable. Not more than what I was expecting. And these guys worked their TAILS off. Only a superhero could have gotten it done faster. A few days later, I received a follow-up call from the company to ask how the move went. I will always use Northstar. I was extremely impressed. For the record, the three Tasmanian devils were Agustin Guido, Jose Guido and Carlos Canizales. Simply awesome!!!
So, let’s review: Estimator on time: check. Complete estimate, including actual travel time: check. Crew arrived on time:check. Finished on time: check. Packed everything they were supposed to, and nothing they weren’t: check. Finished the move within the time quoted: check. Charged less than the estimate!!! CHECK! WOOT! All in all, a very good experience. Would definitely recommend them for local moves!
Extremely professional, friendly, and fast. I was moving from a twelve story apartment building in LA to Long Beach (on a Saturday), and we did everything in about 4 hours. The price came out to be less than what was estimated even. Would recommend them for any move.
