Review by Laura M.

I used North Star Moving for two moves during the month of September.  Both were local moves, and both moves went perfectly.  I was completely satisfied, and I am writing my first Yelp review to recommend North Star to others considering a move.
I hate moving.  I have way too much stuff that I swear multiplied as it was packed.  I have an eclectic combination of antique dressers, Ikea furniture, books, cooking gadgets, electronics, and shoes and, of course, knickknacks from every meaningful or insignificant event of my life.  Oh, and three very spoiled cats.  You put all that together, throw in a heat wave, add a new home that is only partially ready for move in, and even a move of six miles is a recipe for disaster.
Enter North Star to save the day.  I found them while putting in magazine change of address notices on http://Moving.com.  For a lark, I asked for moving quotes.  I received one from North Star and one from another company with a horrible BBB rating.  I started researching North Star, which led me to Yelp, and the positive reviews here encouraged me to give them a try.  Oh, and let me just say I was not asked to write a review by anyone at North Star, nor did I receive any kind of a discount for finding them on Yelp, I guess cause I actually found them onhttp://Moving.com.
Victoria was the person that booked my moves.  She was responsive, polite, and explained everything to me clearly.  She was able to schedule both of my moves for the (weekend!) days I wanted with only a few days lead time.  She made that process very easy for me.
Cesar was the person that notified me when to expect the movers.  He called a couple of days before each move and then when they were on their way to let me know when to expect them.  One of my moves was Saturday afternoon, the other was Sunday morning.  He is also the person that made it possible that I had the same team of three movers for both moves.
That team consisted of Elias, Benancio and Ignacio.  They were great.  They worked a half day the first move, and a full day the second.  Both moves involved loading the truck at the apartment, moving to the house and also moving items to a storage facility.  The first day was hot; the second move day was record breaking HOT!
Neither move was a “take everything and go” kind of move, no, they were both “take this – leave that – that goes to storage – that goes to the house – that goes in the garage” kind of move.  It was probably the worst kind of move for the guys doing the moving.  And, they did this kind of moving while I moved three spoiled, stressed out cats from room to room, baiting them with treats, so they could be secured while the movers had the doors open!
The guys handled all the chaos easily.  They were polite, good humored, and never once seemed frustrated or upset with anything.  They had great attitudes!  Their good nature calmed me.
They worked as a true team.  Elias was the one that took apart and put together furniture.  He also was the paperwork guy, complete with a credit card device in his bag for end of the day charges.  Ignacio was the one that wrapped my furniture and TV’s with blankets and tape, just like in the video on their website.  And Benancio amazed me with his strength:  I’d say “that’s heavy” and he’d lift it with no trouble and add another box on top of it.
Actually, they were all strong and very hard workers.  They had to be told to take a break, to drink some water.  They just kept moving, looking for the next thing to do.  But they worked SMART, too, not just hard.  They used every inch of the truck to be sure everything got in it.  They loaded up dollies at the storage space taller than they were to make the most of each elevator trip.  They grabbed lunch on the way to the storage unit, and ate it while driving to maximize their working time.
Elias, Benancio and Ignacio worked very well together.  Without a lot of discussion, they moved from task to task.  It was all very seamless, and made what could’ve been a couple of nightmare moves, pretty easy and successful.
I don’t plan on moving again soon, maybe not EVER, but if you’re looking for movers to make your local move painless, I strongly suggest you call North Star Moving, and ask for Victoria.  If you’re really lucky, maybe they’ll send Elias, Benancio and Ignacio.
