This past Sunday we had Juan, Tacho, and Jose move all of mine and girlfriend’s furniture into our new place. These guys wore masks the whole time, packed everything safely, and worked quickly. They moved everything up and down stairs without a hitch. Next move I do will be with these guys again.

Moving during COVID is especially stressful, and these guys were fantastic start to finish. I’ve been working 7AM to 7PM days but Lorena was able to quickly set up a virtual appointment for me with Ron, the senior estimator, on a Saturday, who after being showed around my rats’ nest of an apartment via an iPad got me a “Not To Exceed” quote in under twenty minutes that turned out to be dead on even though my move exploded into absolute nightmare territory (zero fault to the movers — a film was unexpectedly shooting on the streets surrounding my new building, making parking the truck a navigational hazard, then the 115-year-old freight elevator jammed on a Friday afternoon and wasn’t able to be fixed by the building managers until the following Tuesday, etc.)
Alex and his team of movers were incredible. Extremely professional, followed strict COVID safety protocols, fun, friendly, courteous, super careful with all my weird fragile things, very nice to my cat who they managed to keep from escaping through a full day of packing and what turned into another 1.5 days of moving, managed all the grenades launched their way by the circumstances so, so beyond admirably, and went out of their way to make sure everything stayed as quick and contained as possible while somehow not exceeding the estimate despite the added work. They even carried my mattress up EIGHT (8) flights of stairs for me at the end of the day Friday when the freight elevator had broken down and we’d already stopped the clock so that I wouldn’t have to sleep on my glorious but very hard and cold new cement floors.
Jason was also fantastic in helping me work out a storage plan for the days in between the attempted move and the successfully completed move.
Cannot recommend NorthStar more highly, and if you end up with Alex in charge of your move, go ahead and relax — you’re in excellent hands.
(Also if you’re as crunched for time as I was and considering hiring them to do a full pack for you, I enthusiastically recommend that as well. They did it in like 1/10th the time it would’ve taken me and did a much better job than I would’ve, labeled everything really clearly to be delivered to new locations in the new place, etc. All very quickly, safely, and they didn’t even make fun of my freak stuff.)
This is the 3rd time we have used NorthStar for a local move and they continue to deliver and impress. The team we had was incredibly safe, fast and courteous. When it was time to unload everything, they took the time to show us each item and box so that they could put it in the exact location we wanted. They took extreme care with wrapping up couch and table legs as well as transporting our art and TV. We don’t anticipate another move in the future but if we do, we will be calling NorthStar again.
I am rarely inspired to leave reviews, but I felt I had to for these guys. I have moved at least 15 times in the last 10 or so years (it’s hard to sit still) and in most cases I got the “support” of movers. I use the quotes because, more often than not, it was more of a hassle than help. Items broken, prices not honored, shady dealings, etc etc.
In fact, I was determined not to use a moving company for this move after the last time, but it was just too complex of a situation not to get help. Short version: we were downsizing, had a 3-day delay to get into our new place while staying in a hotel, then moving items into the new place and storage. This would be no simple job! I started researching and reached out to NorthStar. That’s where David comes in.
David was my estimator, who came out to look at the job and give me a not-to-exceed price (both a professional estimator and a not-to-exceed price were new to me). David was thorough, friendly, and brought a quality of service I hadn’t experienced in prior dealings with moving companies. We basically decided on them doing a full pack, storing the items in their storage option for 3 days so it would be insured, then moving it to the new place with the last destination being our storage unit. When the guys arrived (Austin, Red, Kyle, Hamdi and Noah on a separate occasion) to help us pack and move, they were thorough, efficient, and friendly. Interacting with them made a super stressful, “crap we forgot about ____!” move more enjoyable, even if I might have slowed them down a bit with my lack of organizational skills. 3 days later the same guys came to help with the apartment and storage moves. They helped me unpack at the apartment and organize the storage unit which I didn’t expect at all.
Being frank, I hit the not-to-exceed price and still had a decent amount of work to do, so I was somewhat concerned there was a loophole I overlooked (like being too talkative or disorganized) but nope. They honored it without a moment’s hesitation. I’m sure David got some trouble for it – sorry David!
After the move, we only had one or two pieces out of a 4 bedroom, fully furnished home being moved that had any damage, and only a box or two in the wrong location (apartment instead of storage and visa versa) and David got it rectified and provided a solution almost immediately. For such a complex move it went extremely well, and to have such speedy resolution to the small issues that occurred was amazing. The price cap and friendly, professional service was icing on the cake.
That’s why I’m leaving them a 5 star rating and taking the time to leave this review. By far the best moving professionals I’ve ever interacted with and will be using them again in the future.
Austin and his team did amazing! Pricing is competitive, the gentlemen did an amazing job moving everything as gently and carefully as possible. Super helpful and got straight to work. Really enjoyed working with this company and hopefully not anytime soon (lol) but would definitely work with them again.
All the stars in the sky would not be a high enough rating. I would like to thank Ron Cohen with all my heart for making a complicated and extremely stressful move so easy. From the moment I scheduled my appointment with him he listened to my needs and was quite accommodating. I am in the process of moving two homes to to two storage areas and two apartments. He gave me wonderful packing advice. When I told him I needed to expedite the move to a guaranteed delivery date he apologized for the high cost and helped me find an affordable solution. I have been dealing with multiple moving organizations and Ron has been by far the most honest and helpful of all of them! A lot of fly by night movers will give you a low quote and jack it up after the move, ruin your belongings and make you pay for the privilege of their poor service. Ron genuinely wanted to be the solution to my problem even if I couldn’t use his services.
I’m truly grateful to North Star and Ron Cohen for being a customer driven organization.

Moved our elderly mother from her large home in Calabasas to a Condo in Encino. Worked with Ron who was wonderful. His quote was detailed & competitive! I sent Ron lots of texts & emails regarding HOA requirements. He got back to me in a timely manner and took care of everything perfectly! The crew arrived at our moms on time , very kind, considerate, & packed everything up securely! On the move again and this time I used Northstar Moving to move my 3 bedroom apartment in Diamond Heights to a house in the Sunset District. I reserved with pretty late notice for a Saturday move and got lucky that they could accommodate me. I decided to go with 4 movers (I’ve always used 3 in the past) so that we could hopefully get things wrapped up early in the afternoon. The hourly rate was competitive for 4 movers. They arrived to my house on time and got to work. The lead mover was friendly and approachable. At the end of it all no items were broken or missing so I was happy about that.
The thing that impressed me most about Northstar was their customer service and support. There were a few issues over the course of the day that I found confusing and stressful and I indicated this to the lead mover who encouraged me to reach out to the customer service/management team. I had the good fortune of receiving a call back from a woman named Wendy who I believe was from the district office. She was kind, empathetic and genuinely wanted to make sure I felt good about my experience. She was never dismissive of my concerns and worked very hard to make me feel like a valued customer. In a world right now where there is so much tension, animosity and defensiveness in general it was refreshing to feel validated and respected. This is the primary reason why I will use Northstar again. They really seem to care about the customer experience.
Even though I consider myself to be a veteran renter and mover there are lessons that everyone should always remember to keep in mind when moving. Get the estimate before the move starts. If you hire multiple movers clarify what each of their roles will be. Do not be shy to ask questions or get clarification from the team lead while the move is in progress. And if at all possible be an active observer and/or assistant director so that everyone is on the same page.

This is the company I recommend to anyone moving in the Bay Area. They are incredibly professional, have fair rates, and are the only company I’d trust to pack my valuable furniture items. They were really fast at packing up, made sure to triple wrap anything valuable, they were really clean in taking any excess packaging with them and made sure to protect the floors and walls of our apartment. Our storage unit was tight but they were basically Tetris masters in making sure everything fit but was also safe for storage in the way it was placed. Definitely reach out to them for a quote if you are moving in the Bay Area!
Just had our furniture moved from storage into our new home by NorthStar. We chose them based on reviews but still worried a little about how it was going to go. Austin, Kyle, and Tico were fantastic. They arrived and got started on time. The 3 of them worked really well together. Two moved things up into the truck and Tico put everything together in the truck like an amazing 3-D puzzle. Austin and Kyle were very careful with everything and took special precautions with a few delicate family treasures and we ended up with nothing broken, scratched or damaged. We had everything wrapped in plastic while in storage and they removed it from every piece before taking them into the house. They removed feet from a chair to get it through a tight squeeze. They took doors off hinges to make room to get things through. They were careful to keep things clean. And best of all they got our entire house in and set up in less time than we expected.
All I can say is you got to use NorthStar Moving the next time you move. We will!
While trying to find an affordable long distance mover from So-Cal to Seattle, I stumbled upon Northstar. I had received quotes from other companies, but the Northstar team was prompt about following up and communicating what next steps were at all times; which is why I went with them.
I moved during Covid, which was stressful, but the team has adapted wonderfully to keeping the process safe, but accurate. I started with a virtual walk through of my apartment, listing all my furniture and then getting a detailed quote. I locked in a date, and the moving team arrived on time, with PPE and extra packing supplies. I had packed everything myself, but when the team identified items that needed more packaging or padding, they went out their way to make sure all of my items were protected.
My things arrived two weeks later at my new location; the only thing that had broken during the move was a coffee cup (that I didn’t pack very well). All in all I was very pleased with the price, the service and choosing North Star to handle my move. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable long distance mover that will charge them a fair price for their services.

Any time I have moved I’ve always felt a certain sense of anxiety about hiring movers because I’ve so often been fleeced or presented with “surprises.”
NorthStar did a wonderful job of communicating with me, scheduling a virtual video tour of all the things I needed to move, and provided me with a “not to exceed” rate that I felt comfortable with. Amazing service with Northstar throughout my move to the East Bay. Three guys came and help: Abraham, Jose, and Ulises. They were very helpful, friendly, and knew what needed to be done in a proper way. All items that were moved were also in good condition upon arrival. John and his team were prompt, fast, and super communicative. They were able to pick up my packing slack after a family emergency and make moving day go smoothly. They wore masks, put down hallway pads to protect our wood floors, and wrapped everything up very securely. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Northstar and will likely use them again.

Great experience with this moving company for a local move. Eventhough I didnt clearly communicate my moving need, they were able to adapt and complete my move on schedule and professionally. The things they helped to pack were packed well. Nothing was damaged in the move from furniture to antique champagne glasses and pottery. Everyone wore masks throughout the move, and it felt as safe as possible in the current pandemic conditions. Tip your movers this is hard work during hard times!
